New Canadian Politics Thread

The Cliff Notes:

Internal Trade:
- Legislation to remove all federal barriers to interprovincial trade
- Mutual recognition of credentials across the country
- Required reviews by all departments of the federal government to "undertake reviews and to report on progress, within 60 days, on steps to eliminate outdated or unnecessary rules, reduce duplication or overlap with provincial rules, and streamline the administration of rules and the delivery of regulatory decisions."
- Expediting the federal funding for inter provincial "nation building" projects

Nation Building Projects:
- Making Atlantic travel (confed bridge, ferries, etc) cheaper
- Looks like they're expanding the previously announced highspeed rail plan to include Toronto to Windsor, so making the project what it always should have been. Windsor to Quebec City.
- 5 Billion to expand international ports, airports, highways that access that infrastructure, etc
- 10 billion dollar loan guarantee fund for indigenous projects (which I'm going to assume will be aimed at the arctic)
- Build out of an east to west electricity grid
- Rural transit funding
- Digital infrastructure (data centres, communications networks, etc)
- Move requirement for final decision on project applications approval to two years from their current five years
- "One Project, One Review". Federal government will honour all project approvals done at the provincial/territorial level, and will attempt to get all of the provinces and territories to agree to be a part of a national agreement

Rando Stuff
- Money and legal protection for the CBC
- Historic sites and national parks free for everyone this summer
- Clarifying and better enforcing Canadian product identification to support "Buy Canadian"
- Limiting foreign bidders on government contract tenders except when Canadian options don't exist, aren't feasible, etc.

A big, big bag more stuff. Just read it.

I see this as really good news, and also as really bad news.

Yep. Nothing will calm my anxiety until the results actually come in on the 28th.

Until then, I’ll keep imagining that the polls are wrong in some new and imaginative way and/or that there will be a combination of a last minute swing of support and/or a perfect storm of vote-splitting that favours the Conservatives, and PP will win a surprise majority.
