I wouldn't waste my time trying to convince him. These people cherry pick what they want to believe and what they don't. Just tell him he lost and he needs to suck it up and stop being a cuck about it.

Dont't know if this is going to remain a durable trend in the near term largely because a US slowdown usually means an international slowdown, but I think that the underlying point of what I said a few months ago is going to hold. The things we sell the US are mostly unfinished or semi finished raw materials that there are other international buyers for or US firms are just stuck buying from us at whatever tariff level. The things they sell us are finished good, services, IP, etc and are generally way easier to uncouple from.

I feel dumb saying this but I did not know he is an Albertan. I feel like he can show that off a bit more in light of all these separatist talks.

Maybe kind of a missed opportunity that he didn't run for and win a seat in Alberta.

His hometown is Edmonton, where the NDP & Libs each won a seat.

Also, regading the separatist talk, Carney could have been birthed in downtown Red Deer in the back of a lifted truck and it would still be going on. Also, it's complete nonsense and ignore it.

Man, the Carney disinformation is already pumping.

One of my co-workers just came in ranting about how Carney announced that any vehicles that are lifted, or have tinted windows or that were manufactured before 2000 will be illegal and must be off the roads within 14 days.

When I asked for the source, she kept repeating that Carney himself had announced it, and then mentioned that “it’s all over Tik Tok”.

Get her to show me the video, and it’s a very realistic deepfake video of Carney, albeit surrounded by flashing gifs of combined Alberta/American flags and a smiling picture of Danielle Smith.

Even after pointing out it’s MAGA-generated fake news, that fact-checking sites have been reporting this as a hoax for three days that that zero reputable news sources are reporting this “announcement” by Carney, she still didn’t believe that it wasn’t real.

but I mean I deal with this too.

one of my buddies at work is all into this 'anti-woke' crusade. he voted conservative, even though Libs would be better for him directly (his wife, upon realizing this, voted Liberal, despite her complete disinterest in politics).

so I ask him, you're all up in arms about this anti-woke stuff, give me an example of how it has negatively affected you. crickets.

this is the same guy who would tell me I was overreacting re: Trump. as soon as you poke beneath the surface though, becomes pretty clear the position is not based on any facts or logic. seems to apply to a shockingly wide array of shit these days

As a wealthy partner in a law firm, nothing adversely affects his personal privilege or his white male privilege yet these culture wars about wokeness are his obsession.

It’s based on “vibes” and “memes”, which call upon our gut sense and emotion centres. Sometimes they try to dress it up as analytical or “common sense”, the former based on disinformation and the latter just being plainly stupid. You punctured that rather easily.

We are in the Age of Imbeciles. And it can grab anyone, no matter how smart or hard working.

That’s the scary part. She is generally smart, very good at her job, and I can’t recall ever noticing any sign that she’s Maple MAGA or even a Poilievre supporter.

She is a bit older though, and all the generations older than ours seem to have especially poor “bullshit detectors” for online misinformation.
