New Canadian Politics Thread

There are boatloads of videos like that on Youtube. I wish they'd do something about it like they did with all the AI content.

My personal youtube guideline is that as soon as I hear one of the AI generated narrators, I block the channel. They're quite good now, way better than they used to be but get tripped up on names and places that aren't english. As soon as I notice that, I know that the creator has just fed a chatgpt generated script into the AI narrator and strung a bunch of b roll together for clicks.

I still haven't come across a single AI narrator driven channel that is worth a damn, so no loss at all and there's more than enough good human created content on youtube.

Yeah, the AI stuff isn't blocked, they just can't monetize it. Hopefully, the fake news stories like above go the same way. If they can't make money on them, they won't bother.

I don’t at all like Lilley, but I happen to agree with him here.

If freedom of religion is a thing in Canada, it’s a thing for all the hateful, bigoted religious people I dislike, too

Personally, I’m fine with not playing pretend that this is *just* an innocent Christian rocker who’s only desire is to play Christian worship songs in churches.

Fuck this guy. Make him unwelcome at every turn on this side of the border.

"Christian worship songs"

I mean, we've had zero problems banning muslim clerics from the country for preaching more or less right out of the quran. There's all sorts of hateful shit in the Bible, and they can fuck their freedom of religion if their "songs of worship" are discriminatory.

You're free to believe whatever hateful regressive bullshit you want. You're not free to discriminate against others openly in public. I keep hearing about this slippery slope thing, but it only ever seems to slide in one direction.

Well Montreal has allowed a lot of open public discrimination with no permits the last couple years under the guise of free speech.

Wrong.

This clown wasn't here to worship anyone but Trump. It was a political grift disguised as a religious revival. He never should have been allowed into the country to begin with.

Religion played no part in any of this.

Even aside from any discriminatory content, there's the basic fact for me that it's a bad idea to use the concept of religious liberty as a shield for individuals who are actively campaigning for the elimination of religious liberty.

And that IS what this dude stands for, and what he's actively campaigned for. The idea that the separation of Church and State should be eliminated, and that America and Canada (since he's repeatedly supported Trump's annexation talk) should be ruled by a fascist theocracy where his particular flavour of evangelical Christian nationalism is the state religion and law of the land.

So..:he shouldn’t be allowed to sing songs in a church that invited him? Are you going to delete all their playlists too?

Has he called for violence against groups based on race/religion? Protested their businesses? Sung his songs outside mosques and synagogues?

Cause Montreal had let all that stuff go, so to come down on some religious nut singing songs about Jesus inside of a church is hard to reconcile with that.

The bolded part of this post is insanely disingenuous. That's not all he is, and that's not all he's doing.

And for all your valid concerns about anti-semitism and the kid gloves it's been treated with in Canada (and I can't really figure out where I argued in favour of any of that), you do realize there's no place for Jews in the Christian nationalist theocracy this guy's an evangelist for, right?
