New Canadian Politics Thread

So where do things stand after d’Entremont and the by election in Edmonton-Riverbend which will probably add another Liberal seat?

imo a reckoning is coming. This D'entremount thing is a sign that Conservatives from east of Saskatchewan are growing increasingly sick of the PP/Byrne program of trying to align closer and closer with MAGA in ideology, rhetoric, and tactics. Read that paragraph from the OLO in Trump's voice. It's not a perfect match (it requires a grade 8 reading level to get through it rather than Trump's usual Grade 5 level), but in tone it's spot on Trumpy. Alberta conservatives are going to be all in on that, PP is wildly popular among the 68 CPC MP's from AB-BC-SK. But Ontario actually delivered the most CPC seats of any province this past election with 52, and PP is a damaged brand in Ontario. There's internal division coming imo.

Unlike 2022 when O’Toole was ousted, there’s no ambitious and sinister “PM-in-waiting” pushing for a caucus vote inside the party.

And I imagine anyone who can see themselves as next Conservative leader is happy to sit back and let PP fumble his way around at a time when Carney’s popularity is increasing.

Dougie or another Provincial conservative will set this off imo.

Dougie's starting to finally struggle in Ontario after years of slipping through every should have been scandal untouched. Its time for him to make a move while he's still popular with ontario conservatives
 
The CON's winning elections isn't good for them anyways. A grievance party works better in opposition. Look at the GOP, they control everything, yet they still find ways to not govern and they blame all their problems on an 80+ year old former president. They aren't interested in running a government, just looting it.

Some kind of reckoning became inevitable once PP made it crystal clear that Jenni Byrne would be remaining in place as one of the central leadership figures in his party, and that he and Byrne would not be toning down their Trumpy bullshit even a little bit.

Also wonder if PP has been giving false assurances and trickle truthing behind closed doors in a attempt to keep the discontent at bay until some unknown point in the future where (he desperately hopes) his popularity will have rebounded.
