You hate Shatkins like my Uncle hated Dubas. Just the same hate. Everything Dubas did was met with negativity with him, couldn't do anything right. I had to stop talking hockey with him for my sanity.

I was trying to think how I would explain this situation to a non-Leaf fan (or a Canadian hockey fan). Maybe someone like a San Jose Sharks fan:

"So our big minute defender got suspended for 5 games, and you know what our stupid coach did? Played our 7th or 8th defender top defender minutes for those 5 games"

"hmm must have been a lot of injuries."

"and he played that 8th defender big minutes when that other defender came back, so of course he will be a healthy scratch during the playoffs."

I get it, Keefe hates rookie defencemen, hates skill, and has a double standard when dealing with Gudpros vs Skill. I have been paying attention.

But Lilly is 24 now and has been a full-time regular for almost 3 years. They have had ample opportunity to trade him (2 GMs) or send him to the Marlies to become an AHL free agent.

At what point does he become a Gudpro? I am actually asking.

I know when he gets traded

Gregor plays like he’s playing pickup and didn’t talk to the other Fs about what position everyone would play before the shift. He’s all over the place.

Hate is a really strong word. "Firmly believe they're incompetent and have next to 0% chance to produce a winning team based on their 20 yr track record" is way more accurate.

Because I think Lilly has "graduated" this year, and the board's collective past trauma has blinded you to that fact.

I can't prove it until the playoffs, but he looks like he is trending in that direction - minutes played, EV, PP..... what more signs do we need?

That to be true would be a nice start.

He's up from 15:19 minutes per game at 5v5 last year, 16.7 dzone/60 last season to 16:17 this season but 15.6 dzone/60. Keefe actually seems to trust Lilly less with defensive work than he did last season. 1:06 in PK minutes per game down from 1:26 last season.

Keefe trusts Liljegren less this season than he did last season as evidenced by deployment choices.

Looking at the numbers, Lilly is the better offensive player today. Wouldn't you want Lilly to get the most Offensive Zone Time?

I would like Keefe to play Lilly as our clear-cut #1 dman. That is not happening when there are Gudpros on this roster and they have 1 d-pairing that is all defense. Hopefully with Edmundson as his "babysitter", Keefe can rely on him a bit more in the d-zone. Like Rielly - Schenn?
 
Keefe is treating him like he's a defenceman he doesn't trust in the defensive zone, yeah. Mo, he's spent most of the season trying to treat like an all purpose #1 defence but he's tried to get away from that a bunch of times throughout the season as well, only giving Lilly that load when it's been absolutely forced on him.

Keefe's usage of Liljegren doesn't support the position that Lilly has somehow graduated in Keefe's eyes at all. As mentioned, Lilly is being played less in defensive situations this season than he was last season, and that's despite Lilly's defensive results being better than the defenders Keefe continues to use in those situations.

Don't let me stop you from being hopeful that Keefe has learned his lesson and won't bench Lilly the first time he turns the puck over in round 1, but please stop this nonsense that there's some reason to believe that aside from just plain hope and that we're somehow the ones being crazy in predicting it. I don't mind disagreement, but fuck your gaslighting.

ok so after mulling it....

1. Timmins is just placeholding for boosh.

2. at least Keefe understands what playing a team like Carolina means, so when it actually comes to playing a team built on speed and skill he's willing to try and match them. that's a good thing.

3. no getting around it - seeing dewar-kampf together and Domi back at C is a big deal, and something I really didn't think we'd see again. I'm not even 100% that it necessarily has to be the way we do it but fuck it's nice that Keefe is still open to it.

4. would have loved to see Nicky get marner's spot but holmberg was so good that he deserves it too.

5. If Keefe has it in him to see Krok line up in Gregor's slot there, then we could finally be cooking with gas. I won't even complain too much if nicky is the odd man out if the 4th line is dewar-kampf-krok and neither gregor or reaves is in the lineup.
 
What the fuck, I thought it was a day to day thing. Fuck.

And I'd say, damn, if only it happened before the deadline to use the LTIR, but we know either the Leafs wouldn't bother or would make a terrible deal for a bad addition.
