The best part is that because so few people use iron lungs anymore the iron lung industry (such as it was) no longer exists and the number of people out there who know how to repair them when they break down is also dwindling. Spare parts have to be made from scratch.
So I guess that's one factory that Trump would reopen.

The whole story is about the use of an oral vaccine for Polio in less developed countries. Whether the benefits (easy to administer, and those who don't take it can actually get immunity through waste water) of that particular strategy are worth the draw backs (the virus in the vaccine can mutate and potentially infect those who aren't vaccinated). But new versions of the oral vaccine are less likely to mutate.
It's a debate about what the best strategy is for vaccination.

A lot of american manufacturing has supply inputs from Mexico either in the way of raw materials or low to mid difficulty parts. Tack 25 points onto those and American exports would become wildly expensive compared to peer manufacturing nations like Germany and Japan.
Also...a huge amount of Mexican exports to the US is food.
