So many people on X celebrating Trump’s win as an end to government oppression

This is exactly how this entire era of attacking inconvenient facts of the world will end.

You can take vaccines away because they suppress our natural immunites, and people are going to get sick from diseases we thought were eradicated. Get rid of the climatologists because climate change is a WEF myth to take away our freedoms and extreme weather events will kill unprepared people. Tariff the fuck out of imports because the chinese need to pay their fair share to access your market (lol) and price inflation will make life less affordable. Etc, etc.

In a free society people learn these things from public institutions and are empowered to make changes to mitigate or eliminate the harm. I have a feeling that in this case, the gaslighting is going to get turned up to 11 by the administration and inconvenient facts will get memory holed.

If there is no trust in institutions (including media) democracy doesn’t function well.

MAGA has replaced trust with a whole lot of fear. Dictatorships live on fear.
