OT: American Politics

like a great man once said, Elon's original sin was thinking the reals were bots and the bots were reals.

How does these fucks expect to survive with their only trading partners being Russia and Turkmenistan

It's simple. Trump believes a thing, and they're now required to believe Trump. The things Trump believes are

1) Tariffs are taxes on the exporting nation, so broad based tariffs will enrich America
2) All of these products that are worth anything can be produced in the US and should be produced in the US.

There are levels to being "wrong". It's really, really difficult to explain just how deeply wrong he is on both of those deeply held beliefs.

Quick example, in 2018 Forbes did a breakdown of what it would take to manufacture an iPhone in the USA and how much they would then cost. The answer was that it would take an "entire generation" to create a precision tooling industry capable of manufacturing it, and the cost to do so would be in the 10's of billions of dollars before you had ever made your first phone. Then, once that was done, at US labour costs for the type of high skill labour required to build them, you would have to sell the phone for (drum roll.....) no less than 30K but maybe as high as 100K per unit and that's not including the cost of amortizing all of the infrastructure you had to build to make it. That's increased labour costs, increased costs through out the entire supply chain, and the decrease in economies of scale that come from the product not being economical to produce en masse anymore.

Also, and fucking crucially, the types of jobs that this type of work would create aren't the blue collar factory jobs that Trumpists think they're bringing back to the country. These aren't low to moderate skill, moderate to high pay jobs like auto manufacturing. This is engineering, precision tooling, etc.

Ending postings on a positive note for Prez Z

G'night. . . . 😴

"This loan will enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities and will be repaid using revenues from frozen Russian assets," he said.

"This is true justice," Zelenskyy wrote in a post on X. "The one who started the war must be the one to pay."
