Schumer is past his expiration date but what choice do they have. A government shutdown is equally disastrous, no?

Bad, yes.

Equally disastrous? No.

Government shutdown will give Trump more or less what he has now from a power standpoint, but without a budget. The budget they're trying to pass gives Trump a bunch of new spending powers. What a shutdown does though is turn into a clusterfuck for the rank and file Republicans, and if the Democrats can stop trying to score own goals, allow them to force changes into the budget and get something much cleaner passed.

I really and truly don't understand these people who insist on clinging to power so late into their lives. You've made your money, you've got your pension, why be like Mitch dragging your half corpse around Washington ffs, go hang out a beach and enjoy your last ~10 years.
