TLDR: Due to the same type of rot and corruption that has them in trouble in so many other places in their country, they can't actually feed themselves either and the farming industry appears to be unwilling to uncouple from their subsidized, globalized grain empire.

At the end of the day, corporations only care about the money. The Krupp's and Porsche's underwrote Hitler and the Nazis and the IBM's and the Disney's will do likewise for American fascists.

In fact, IBM and Coca Cola, to name just two US corporations, never stopped doing business with Nazi Germany even during the war.
