OT: American Politics

The instructive bit here for me is that I've spent the last 25 years of my life pretty plugged in to geopolitical analysis and for years we were told consistently about that China overtaking the US/Collective West being inevitable. There were all sorts of holes in the thesis imo and that it wasn't nearly as simple as "self reported chinese economic numbers go up", but none of that mattered and it was the prevailing wisdom for ~20 yrs. Fast forward into the 2020's and it became pretty clear that not only did China not catch up to the US economically, they weren't even gaining ground and with EU integration going better than almost any talking head ever had predicted, China was really the 3rd biggest economy on the planet, even after Brexit.

But I think the same people are going to do the same thing again. The US isn't handing the future to China if they go down this path. They're handing it to Europe and the coalition Europe will build with their new cultural and economic gravity. But that by itself signals a different world than the one we're used to, as Europe will never look to project power internationally the way the US has.

China is a victim of this, not a beneficiary. Chinese exports go...where exactly? They've tried creating a domestic market for their production levels and failed. A poorer America more dedicated to building more of their own stuff is horrible for China.
