Politicians may "love" Trump but they love their own cushy jobs more. And if Trump's actions threaten that particular gravy train, they can do things to bring him down. Remember, it wasn't the Dems who caused Nixon to resign. He wasn't planning on going anywhere until Congressional leadership from his own party (represented by Senator Barry Goldwater) went to the White House and told Nixon point blank that he was done.
We know that probably half of all elected Republicans in both houses of Congress privately loathe Trump. And all it would take is for about a dozen of them from the House and Senate to get rid of him. And if the alternative is they themselves having their careers ended by this mad man they will do like every politician in history inevitably does: act in their own self-interest.
Anyone hoping to be rescued by Republican Senators and members of the house has not been paying attention.
They’ll watch everything burn, pledging fealty even harder to Dotard the worse things get. If there ever is a day of reckoning, they’ll just lie and say they were against it all along, trying to work on Trump from the inside.
The fact that a handful of R Senators are trying to pass a bill that might allow them to constrain a president at a future date? Meaningless. They know it won’t go anywhere and it will have no impact on the Dotard. It’s empty brand control at best.
