Was it special or was something that most of discounted, that a notable portion of americans act differently by themselves in the voting booth than they do when answering opinion polls?

Nothing I've seen in the last 18 months has convinced me that if the same choice was in front of Americans today that they wouldn't choose the white male octogenarian serious business tyrant over the former lady lawyer wine stepmom.
