Mexican enough to feel like you're in a Mexican city, but with better amenities because of the dolares de norte americanos. Most of the city speaks at least some english (which is awesome when you're not fluent, but functional, such as myself). Tons of police presence around because the state government knows who butters it's bread. Upgraded highways to get you up the coast to the smaller towns and villages on the ocean, new modern toll highway between Tepic and Guadalajara.

I'm looking to make it my semi permanent home in a few years.

When I think greedy about this, it's the only way I like it. There's a really good chance that Trump runs the US economy aground, and this period of dollar dominance comes to an end. All of my assets are in CAD....I would really, really like to see us reach close to parity again. So I can buy US assets without taking the exchange rate beating I would take right now.
