OT: American Politics

Depending on whose source you like, about 270. You guys are putting up Barry Bonds juice era numbers this year.
Didn’t see this. Wikipedia says 600+ but it must just be the criteria they’re using.

(They’re using four or more people shot in one incident but not necessarily deaths)

"Assault style"

Is all you need to know if you're in the pro-gun camp. Parsing of words.

Semi-auto AR-15 are not classified as assault rifles.

There is a clear definition of if for sure...this is just standard politics. They should just define a new term of weapon that is particularly good at soft target destruction, like "murdery rifle", or "decapifier", or "anti-child cannon". Drive people wild.

Yes the pro-gun guys love when libs call ar-15s assault rifles because then they can make fun of them for not knowing guns and deflect from the real issue.

So they call them assault-style - which is accurate, informative (i.e. they arent just rifles), and doesn't allow that type of meaningless deflection from the issue.

However that is not the legal term for AR-15s. That's the point I'm trying to make. Everything in the US has a designation. They need to change that to class 3 licensing which is much harder to get.

Then again, they have gun trusts now where you don't even own the gun. The trust does.

The truth is there's no specific legal term that encompasses all Ar-15 style rifles. And the gun industry feels free to make up new names and new classifications to skirt any legal classifications anyways.

Incorrect. Standard, unmodified AR-15 are not assault rifles by spec.

Once modified to fully auto or bump stock they become illegal. Basically it's the bare bones of an assault rifle that isn't too difficult to modify. Because of the "intended use" and configuration of the rifle it does not fall into assault rifle category.

You have to understand the murky waters that have been created over the decades. It's all wordplay but it's definitely in use.

Correct.

Well Given the way FFL's work I get it. Mostly used for Title 2's. (Full auto's and some other weapons)
(Or more correctly Select fire)
If it weren't too expensive to do I'd love to be able to rent (at a range or the like) a FN-FAL or Israeli Galil.. (Battle rifle and Assault rifle)
and send a few hundred + rounds downrange.. The thing is 1000 rounds sounds like a lot until you are actually shooting I know small family that will shoot that in an afternoon. It's odd. 100 rounds is many when you are intending to kill something. 1000 when your shooting for practice isn't..
