OT: American Politics

And when looking at those numbers, remember that's the somewhat lesser ask of gender neutral pronouns and not whether they're comfortable with calling a biological male by female pronouns and vice versa.

The US still has a long hill to climb with trans acceptance, and now might not be the time to worry about making the journey. It's a niche issue that rattles too many people who otherwise might be part of a voting base that allows the Democrats to wind back some of the GOP authoritarianism that is nearly in it's end game.
The one thing the Dems know how to do is step on rakes by constantly making perfection the enemy of good. Their fucking purity tests are impossible for anyone, including themselves, to pass. Would the GOP have tossed one of their own under the bus over nothing the way Kristen Gillebrand did to Al Franken? Franken was one of the Dem's most effective critics of Trump and they whacked him over a non-incident. They handed his head on a platter to the GOP to prove to everyone how woke they are.

So when will the Senate vote on the marriage equality, and the right to contraceptive, acts?

Have the Senate Dems not learned that they need to be aggressive and make the Republicans vote on issue like these?

I do think there's a notion that being flexible in requirements to be a teacher makes sense, that it's good to encourage more people to go into the profession.

But they should be able to at least spell "Teacher" before being put in front a class.
Teachers raise our children, are responsible for their wellbeing, need the tools to be able to deal with extremely difficult situations and need to be able to accommodate students with a range of skills, abilities, character traits and disabilities.
Removing barriers to entry (which aren’t significant as it is, especially in the US) is not a good thing.

I've had no less than a dozen confrontations with teachers and principals about this very thing.

One anecdote I clearly remember and caused me to put my kid in private school was this:

My kid got one wrong on a test. Still an A so she shows her pops. I look over this 20 question test and notice that the one she got wrong was actually correct. So I keep looking and she got one wrong that was marked correct so the grade was actually correct. I brought it to the attention of the teacher and her response blew me away; "oh that may have been an oversight, the grade is correct though". I flipped out. Got principal and school board involved.

Its not about the fucking grade aholes, you're teaching her incorrectly. This is the mentality here even still. They teach for testing and only give a shit about the grades. We're lucky if 1 in 5 actually give a shit here.

Now they want to put unqualified people in charge of kids. How the fuck are these new teachers going to diffuse daily situations without anger etc? Teachers are trained in this through school.

I'm out of this fucking state.

Breaking the public education system is the GOP’s plan, not a mistake or unfortunate side-effect of a poorly thought-out policy.

Partly it’s because of a desire to keep the public uneducated, lacking critical thinking skills and devoutly religious for the political benefit of the GOP.

As well as driving children from families with financial means to the private/religious schools that either Republicans or their donors have a financial stake in.

I mean in Canada at least up until recently teachers colleges were pumping out way more teachers than there were jobs. So yeah, not sure barriers to entry ought to be reduced...
