OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Face it, you probably feel that most civil servants could do with a scale back. You didn't raise a peep about Harper cutting 20k jobs earlier this year, did you...

I actually really wanted to point out that KB probably doesn't give a shit about "public servants", just teachers.

He would probably cross a picket line but get mad at any parent who sent their kid to school across a picket line.

Like predicted by the honest poster Zeke, Obama's lead has completely evaporated, and he's officially fallen behind in the RCP average. The electoral votes map still give him an edge but not a convincing one.

That debate was an absolute total gamechanger. So good for Romney that IMO that it likely nullifies much of Obama's current advertising campaigns, so the Obama camp will have to try something new there.

The only shred of good news I can see for Obama is that since the first debate was such a big deal, the second debate will be getting more attention than it usually would, so Obama has another chance to turn it around a bit - but he'll have to have an absolute killer debate, and after the last outing, I'm not sure he can.

As much as it pains me to admit, you did say it was disastrous. I thought you were exaggerating.

"most economists" my sweet ass.

the same people bitching about the numbers this month are the same ones who have been ripping Obama for the last 4 years based on those EXACT SAME NUMBERS.

Untrue. Economists from all spectrums have agreed the numbers do not appear right.

Other than the fact that the economy is doing much better now than anyone predicted it would when he took over, and other than the fact that the U.S. recovery is progressing faster than most other recoveries around the world.

Drop everything you are doing and go work on his campaign. You're as big a shill as Stephanie Cummings.

Claiming everything is in the shitter does not make you unbiased.

I don't recall claiming that at all. I must go back and read what it is you obviously think that I am thinking. The economy is still pretty bad though, that is undeniable. Spraying perfume of garbage doesn't change the fact it's still garbage.

Better than when he took over and better than most western democracies.

What did you expect in 4 years after one of the biggest economic meltdowns in history.

Bush is gone yet still blame him for Obama's ineptitude. Obama made promises, he did not reach those promises. The Dems made promises, they didn't achieve them either. The unemployment numbers are bullshit, the GDP is disgustingly low, the economy is sluggish and yeah, I expect more. If he can't do it then someone else should get a crack at it. If that person can't do it find someone else that can.

I have never and will never be an apologist for Obama. He wanted the job, he promised he'd fix things. He promised levels of economy that he did not even come close to achieving. Here is a newsflash... if you can't deliver don't promise. No excuses. he even said he didn't deserve a second term if he didn't do what he said... now he does? There are enough people excusing this overrated professor, I won't add to them.

The really disgusting truth is if it isn't Obama it will be Romney. I might as well move back to Canada with those two ****ing choices.

I just see someone with unrealistic expectations. Especially given the broken system and the fact the republicans did everything in their power to obstruct government.

i don't know why people are acting like the expectation was that the bounceback from the 2007-09 recession would be big. nobody expected that.

A key issue
is whether the global economy is just hitting another
bout of turbulence in what was always expected
to be a slow and bumpy recovery

http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/weo/2012/02/pdf/c1.pdf

obama has managed the economy decently in terms of both the situation he inherited, and in light of the current state of the global economy, much of which is entirely out of his control.

It is crazy sadfunny, really.

You take any major economic measure - be it unemployment, GDP, stock market, whatever - and democratic administrations whup republican administrations by an astonishing margin.....but yet people still believe that the republicans now how to boost the economy and create jobs.
