OT: American Politics

Romney was running on Bush's economic platform, then he found out that wouldn't work, so now he's running on Obama's economic platform. There's still time for Romney to change his mind though.

It's going to be tough for Obama because Romney has no solid position on anything. He's taken every side on key economic and social issues at one point or another. Much more difficult to attack someone that has no firm positions on anything and can flip flop at any point.

National vote is overrated. It's the swing states that matter, which Obama still leads in most. Although, they've tighted up. It's still Obama's to lose, but he needs to wake the **** and go on the attack.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

As usual, it's the kids who suffer. This is my daughter's gr.8 year...she wants the Athlete of the Year award, which is tricky to have if there are no sports to join, never mind the actual graduation. Things have been not too bad at her school, but even though the teachers there are still doing things like Cross Country, some schools are not running teams, which means you can't have your regular flag-football, Baseball, Volleyball etc tournaments.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I've withdrawn from coaching at my school (as have all my colleagues), but if things do not change with regards to direction from the union for an across the board work to rule, I will be going back to coaching for second semester.

I'm upset about the way the Govt disregarded the collective process, but the affluent schools in my area are running sports and the economically disadvantaged kids from my school are getting the shaft...AGAIN. I stay at this school, at least in part, because coaching the teams gives me a chance to do more for kids who have less and I'm not going to sit by while they get the short end of the stick.

That is a great point... the more affluent schools (like mine.. I just started here 2 years ago) have the parents in our faces constantly about sporting events... and we haven't caved.. but our family of schools are running every thing. These kids are also the same ones that have, hockey, scouts, dance, gymnastics, swimming etc all after school. Yet the inner city schools, where the kids go home to watch tv until mom comes home really get the shaft, as they have nothing without teachers offering it. It really does suck.

Also not to crap on whomever wrote about their daughter wants the athlete of the year award.. I get it, but man when you look back on life... .does it really matter if she gets that award for elementary school??
The parents in my school care a crap load about if Justine wins the cross country meet. But won't really care that her reading sucks, or that she is giving handjobs to some of the boys behind the convenience store... and believe me it happens.

Other than the fact that the economy is doing much better now than anyone predicted it would when he took over, and other than the fact that the U.S. recovery is progressing faster than most other recoveries around the world.

How do you come up with these fantasies? Papaya?

Every artocle that i read predicted a recovery by now with 2.5% growth.

I liked this blog post from Bill Maher:

Paul Ryan Is Not An Economist
October 9, 2012

By Bill Maher

Paul Ryan couldn't explain his tax plan to Chris Wallace because "It would take me too long to go through all of the math." It's not the first time Ryan has had trouble trying to explain his plans and it raises an important question: is Paul Ryan a policy wonk, or does he just play one on TV?

The record suggests he just plays one on TV. He has a bachelor's degree in political science and economics. That's all. He's not a trained economist and wouldn't be qualified to teach a graduate level economics course. Most economists take him about as seriously as they do his idol, Ayn Rand.

The only people who have tagged him as a brilliant economist are journalists who aren't economists themselves and other Republicans. Why does everyone take it as a given that he's a wonk? How would they even know? He lies about everything else; doesn't it make sense that he’s lying about that, too?

I notice any time Ryan gets into trouble explaining economic issues, he starts using the word "baseline" a lot. It's not really that complicated of a word, but I think it's meant to scare people off, like, "Don’t mess with me, I'll start talking about baselines." To me, it just smacks of a guy who's trying too hard. And it's meant to end the conversation before someone who does know what they're talking about discovers he has no idea.

Ryan once told The Weekly Standard that meeting with budget actuaries was "the highlight of my day." Again, trying too hard. The reporter bought that. I don't. And is someone who enjoys talking to actuaries that much really qualified to be vice president?

Romney's awfulness as a candidate is obscuring how awful Ryan is. Look at that footage of him being booed at the AARP -- seniors don't just dislike his plan, they think he's a condescending little prick. If you thought Al Gore talked down to people, listen to Paul Ryan for five minutes. The difference is, Gore wasn't pretending -- he really did know shit.

The polls also suggest that the real disaster on the Romney/Ryan ticket might be Ryan. Around the time Ryan was picked for VP, Romney was up among seniors in Florida and Ohio; now Obama has the edge. Along with Democrats solidifying their support, the improvement with seniors is the biggest reason Obama has risen. Don't you think Ryan has something to do with that?

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

So was I. My sister is an admin in a local district and tells us about blow jobs being given freely at the local middle school where Count Jr will be starting in two years. I'm already wondering which of the girls will give him one and trust it won't be an ugly girl. My wife is horrified but I say, damn where were those chicks when I was in Grade 6 and 7.

Okay, this is one of the creepiest posts I've ever read on here.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Tell your friends to stop mooching off the system then

They are the system. They voted for whatever party would make the most promises. Rinse and repeat often enough and you get an unsustanable leeching. They ran out of others peolpe money and now have to pay from each others pocket.

Another 4-5 years of 15 billion deficits in ontario.......and teachers will be talking about the good old days of pay feezss.

The day of "i deserve" has ended and we are into "i must preserve". Then will come "they cant cut from us".
