OT: American Politics

Except that Obama's gridlock is likely a better outcome than Romney's action.

Could very well be. I agree with you and others that causing intentional gridlock is disgusting. The truth of the matter is history has shown both parties to do it. When party is put before country you have a broken government. Guess what we have?

I want to hear your opinions, they carry a lot more weight than those two, that is for sure. I want to hear them after the emotion has been removed, though. Look at it like it's at least a possibility that you have misjudged the man, and just analyze the facts.

I acknowledge it's very hard for all of us to remove "emotion" from the equation right now, though. It always gets hysterical (on both sides) right before an election.

The majority of my bias towards Obama comes from the fact most media outlets have given him smooth sailings. The fact that people, even here, apologize for everything he didn't accomplish. In my opinion many have treated Obama with kid gloves and it pisses me off. You may disagree with me but that is how I see it.

Well we keep being told Romney is a funny guy and prankster.

He's not that funny. Watch that video, he's got some stellar one-liners. No way he got those without help from a real comedian. Obama's seemed more in tuned with his character. Romney's were really funny which is not in tune with his character.

This one begs captioning.

"These are not the policies you're looking for..."

well said

At least he admitted on both sides. Refreshing.

I have the ability to concede a point. Most people here don't. I have made many a good point only to have it glossed over by bias.

Oh and Axl, in fairness to your question I pose another question... is it possible, without emotion, that some of you misjudged Obama also? Works both ways mate.

The very large percent of Obama supporters have been more than willing to acknowledge he hasn't lived up to the expectations he set in 08' (mind you any rationale observer knew they were unrealistic at the time, as are the majority of all campaign promises made by any politician)

What's considerably more rare, is someone acknowledging they misjudged the opposition......hell even in your reply to Axl, despite implying it, you couldn't quite bring yourself to admit such a thing, choosing instead to pivot and redirect the question.

There are mitigating circumstances with me. I know what Bush cost me and I hate the prick. I also know what Obama cost me. I'm not some kid talking about poli-sci here Montana, my opinions are derived from my experiences and the effect on myself and my family both financially and socially. To most of you here this is merely academic, to me it isn't... not even close.

Obama is not small business friendly. Has never been. Forget what you read in biased articles on either side. I have been in business for 25 years. I am well versed in finance, obtaining credit, taxation (including FICA, Payroll etc) and hiring and firing. After giving the Banks obscene money (both Bush and Obama) they held onto it white knuckled. Operating credit dried up like a nun's (well you know).

I won't vote for Obama because I know, in my bones, it will be four more years of gridlock. Most of you think I am kidding but I am not, I won't vote for Romney either because of four years of gridlock that just passed and some of his social policies. I am socially moderate and fiscally conservative. I think Romney would be better for the economy than Obama, I just don't like his other beliefs and I am really pissed off at the hijacking of the GOP the past decade.

What is my real motivation for voting Johnson? I refuse to help either main candidate win.

Damian don't call me 666 Romney in that pic is classic. Wow. Practicing for Halloween no doubt.

Obama was on the Daily Show tonight. Actually a decent interview. Not sure how long they'll let this clip stay on YouTube, if it's down you can always find it on The Comedy Network or CTV's websites.

Anything is possible. I know for myself, I am always attempting to re-evaluate my opinions, based on new information. Certainly there have been times when I have wondered if I have misjudged myself? I believe the answer is no. If people raise valid questions, I will consider them. It got to a point long ago with people like HA and KB though, when you read the hateful drivel on many subjects, you realize there is absolutely zero objectivity there. None of us hate Romney or even Bush as much as certain people hate Obama.

The truth is that many on the right hated Barack Obama from the very first day he appeared on the national scene. Even my brother, who is definitely more conservative than me, has said he can't understand this, the hate has gone way too far and it is largely unjustified and ridiculous. You know this is true. You can argue it's a cycle, a lot of people on the left hated Bush, a lot of people on the right hated Clinton, etc. etc. But in the case of Bush his election began with controversy, and got worse and worse.

I stand by my opinion that Obama is incredibly smart, a shrewd politician, and very charismatic. Nobody here thinks that he is perfect. This constant sniping about "the Messiah" and all this other nonsense are reactions to the president that was interviewed by Clint Eastwood, not the real thing.

Was it just me that thought Romney was doing his best impression of Ronald Reagan? The delivery, the way he moved his head...I thought I was watching Rich Little.

I find it all rather insane, really.

There has never been a president who has ever been under such a sustained and extreme attack on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE, STATEMENT, and ACTION from a huge chunk of the media, and from the opposition party.

Ever.

And even then, the list of Obama's accomplishments is extremely impressive....even for a normal president, let alone one who inherited the multiple disasters he did.

The tracking polls (which cover a rolling average of 3-7 days) should start showing the effects of the last debate now a couple days later. It'll be interesting to see if they show any bounce either way.
