OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

And under 80% from a party leadership review vote is absolutely terrible. I remember around the time of the vote, he got that number - a lot of people were saying that based on that number he should resign. It's something like no leader has ever not resigned when they got under like 90% in a vote like that. It's a highly biased poll.

I imagine he'll survive by the skin of his teeth again, which is good news for the Liberals. A competent Tory leader and the libs wouldn't stand a chance. As it is, it's probably 50/50 that the Libs actually win the next election, which is really insane given the scandals going on. The federal liberals were torched much worse for much less scandal.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Is there any history or statistic to draw on as far as what having a leader without popular approval within his party does to donations and campaigning? Does it kill the number of volunteers?

If you don't think Russia still has the ability to do tremendous damage to western interests, has actually ACCELERATED its attempts to do damage to western interests in the past 5 years, and that hopeychange's "reset" has had nothing to do with all that, then you haven't been paying attention.

No president since carter has more thoroughly mismanaged western relations with Russia than hopeychange. Not even close.

Oh my god. Seriously? You seriously want specifics the week Russia offers asylum to snowden? How about actively, brazenly supporting Iran, Syria, and North Korea on the ground and at the UN? Wasnt his "reset" and the sheer force of hopeychange's personality and charisma supposed to fix all that and get them to work with us? and all he had to do was completely sell out our Eastern European allies and look weak in front of the entire world to do it.

Worst FP president since carter, and it's not even close.

You mean like when Bush flinched when the Russians invaded Georgia? Russia was backing those counties long before Obama came to power. Nothing fundamental has changed.

Snowden will be nothing but a footnote in history, if at all.

Russia, shockingly, is pursuing its own self-interests. They must be evil. Apparently you can't handle that. But, big picture, they are no longer the strategic threat they once were. And they now that they've tightened economic relations with Western Europe (Germany, in particular), the dynamic has changed significantly.

So, grab and paper bag and ventilate. Most of what Putin does is for internal public consumption, his grip on power has been slipping a bit.

Volunteers are a local function not a central one.

However, based on what happened during the internal revolt against Tory, the money does dry up pretty damn quick.

Megyn Kelly to replace Sean Hannity at 9pm.
When Bill-O retires, Kelly gets his show.
I bet KrauthammerBoy didn't see that coming either, to those top-rated shows...

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

That could mount a credible leadership challenge immediately, with the expected blowback from within Hudak's core supporters? Not many.

I'm a big Frank Klees guy though.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Given how long Hudak has been an absolute failure, you'd think a coordinated campaign has been in the works for longer than you realize or care to admit.
Because if not, it's just one more reason to laugh at the joke known as the Ontario Tories.

I'm a big Frank Klees guy though.

What a surprise.
But Klees is just opportunistic, choosing to attack when his prey is weakest. He's probably wanted Hudak's job for a long time, but sadly, Hudak had the vast majority of your party's support.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Frank does want Tim's job.

He also happens to be a million times more personally likable and is the type of moderate Red Tory that Ontarians badly want to elect. It helps he's my local MPP as well of course.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Yes, I do hope. Charisma aside, with his extensive contacts in the business community I think Klees would run a very credible campaign backed by a lot of high-profile individuals and companies.

I originally supported Christine Elliot in the leadership race a few years ago, but I've been put off by her support of Hudak and apologist attitude towards the recent disastrous by-election showings from the party.
