OT: American Politics

I actually have no issue with this ruling. These fucking lawyers need to learn not to shit where they eat. They need to stop being naïve and recognize that to avoid engaging in wrongdoing isn't enough. They also have to avoid the appearance of wrongdoing. Perception is reality, or can be twisted to appear real.

I can't put this any other way. Find some other guy who isn't a lawyer to fuck in your spare time, Fani. I realize that's not "fair", but such is life. Priests aren't allowed to marry and people who prosecute high profile cases need to think about who they're fucking before they fuck them, lest they themselves wind up being fucked like Trump nearly succeeded in doing.

This is the same bullshit we got in the OJ trial when Marcia Clark was discovered to be fucking her co-counsel, Chris Darden. Can you people just keep it in your goddamn pants for 5 minutes and focus on getting a fucking conviction first? And is the reason you allowed OJ to get off scot-free because you were too busy playing footsie under the prosecution desk in the courtroom? As Belichick says, "Do your job".

they just fall for all of this shit over and over, it's so sad.

look back thru this thread even and see how many times they got fooled. benghazi and butheremails and russia hoax!1 and hunter's laptop and the durham report and amy coney barrett is a four corners judge who will never overturn roe despite all you fascists fearmongering!
I don't think many of them were "fooled". I think the vast majority just pretended to be dumb when in reality they wanted all those outcomes to happen. And whatever excuse you could get away with between 2016-2020 for voting GOP vanished on January 6th, if not prior to that. Anyone who was still planning to vote for Trump in 2020 and anyone today who plans to vote for him, is simply pro-fascist or so dumb they shouldn't be allowed to operate a pair of scissors, let alone vote.

If someone like Bobby Orr, who has been burned many times throughout his life by grifters like Alan Eagleson, had come out to publicly support Trump in 2016, I'd be open to giving him a mulligan under the excuse of "Who knew it would be that bad?". But he took out a full-page ad supporting Trump in 2020, long past the time when well-meaning people should have realized they had been duped. So Orr is either colossally stupid, doesn't understand how fascism works (or doesn't particularly care how it works because he lives in a golf course community populated almost exclusively by old, rich white people) or he knows precisely what he's doing and is a fascist himself. For fans like me, this is hard to take because he was a boyhood idol. He was literally the first "celebrity" I ever met in person. But clearly this particular idol has feet of clay and whether it was nature or nurture, he is now an irredeemable Trumper so it really doesn't matter how he arrived in that camp.

I'm wondering how the polls can really capture the unenthusiastic Republican 8 months out. The people that take the time now might just be more of the cult members.

Not really totally related to the quoted post, just the resignations, shit CPAC turnout, shit conference turnout, and Haley votes got me thinking.

I've never seen the gop in this kind of state before.

But it's still amazing to me that guys will start resigning instead of just speaking out againsy and voting against the gop they think are this big a problem tho.

Trump won by less than 1.5 points last time. And they have a D Governor. Seems worth a shot.
definitely at least worth a shot, yeah, especially with what seems to be a huge fundraising advantage.
Oh Biden will win the Triangle easily, he won here (Wake County / Raleigh) 62-35 in 2020, and the other two major counties in the Triangle (Durham & Orange) he probably won 80-20 (Edit: Durham was 80-18, Orange 70-23).... I just don't know if he can gain another 10 points around here to overcome the rest of the state (except Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co was 67-32).

That's where the problem is, outside of the major metro areas -- they're comfortable in their Trumpiness and moving more in that direction. MAGA cult is unfortunately on a heater state-wide, gaining the double super-majority in the legislature (thanks to that plant that switched parties after being elected) and taking over the State Supreme Court, locking in the gerrymandering through the courts, and our decent 2-term governor is getting term-limited out, and you've all seen who the cultists are putting up for his replacement.... not looking good, so I hope the media keeps digging on that guy.

It's not for nothing that I try to completely avoid most of my in-laws. I mean, last summer, the preacher cousin-in-law (in the northwestern corner of NC) turned a family FUNERAL into a freakin' political sermon.

Really feel for ya there on the last part. The last Trump presidency divided our family and we just about recovered the last year or so and now I’m sure they’re gonna start up again.

Yeah, I almost got up and left mid-service disgusted with the whole thing ("If she were here, she'd tell y'all...."), but I liked the Aunt who passed (who also NEVER expressed a political opinion in my presence) & also didn't want to embarrass the wife.

Couldn't even avoid cultist preacher cousin at the pot luck dinner after the funeral, 100+ people there and he had to come up and talk hockey with me because he saw me on TNT when they zoomed in on me for about 10 seconds in the crowd after Florida beat us in OT in ECF Game 2 few months back. Sigh, really wanted to re-live that, thanks.

Don't mean to completely lay it on the in-laws either, my brother is just easier to avoid 4 states away. It's tough... I hear about so many families bitterly split.
