If a country that fancies itself a super power is going to make another country its 51st state by “economic force” it stands to reason they aren’t going to let us vote.

And why the hell would we want any part of that mess?

I don't know why you guys keep trying to frame this so weird. It's not complicated, every one of us does this successfully everywhere in our lives. If your friend is a deeply terrible person, and you remain friends with them despite them being a nazi, jihadist, sens fan, etc...it absolutely, 100% says something about you.

There have been entire classes of socialites that hung around every authoritarian government in history. If you're part of that ruling class, you're a piece of shit, full stop.

You keep assuming that voting will still matter by then.

Trust me. It won't. Elections will just be for show, like they are in Russia now.

The point is that, at least the first time this came up, you're imagining scenarios from the future that may or may not have any basis in reality. For all we knew Gretzky had dinner at Mar-a-Lago 3 times (or 300 times, none of us have any idea) when JOE BIDEN was president.

Things are different now, we all get that, and bringing Patel to this public event is absolutely an escalation worthy of scorn and condemnation.
