Trump probably sees Newsom as a major rival in 2028 (yes, he’s seeking a third term). Last time when he tried to marshall the resources of the state against his main rival, he was stopped and impeached. Not this time. Trump can arrest Newsom, and 51% of Americans and 6/9 Supreme Court judges will support it.
