while I think Dems need to do more podcasts..... politicians having to explain policy to half wits more comfortable interviewing minor celebrities is one of the worst things that have happened to politics in my lifetime.

most people don’t have the time or care to scour Twitter for the best most honest source or read the Atlantic or even the good stuff in RS.
What they do see is tv, which is editorialized and blatantly biased, and algo driven clips on social media.
This is getting people who wouldn’t engage in policy to do it. That’s a good thing especially in this day and age.

I think some fairly simple truths about political realities have to be said right now, and in a simple way. You don't have to explain policy details on these shows.
But you definitely have to show that the left are real, normal people with good ideas for most people, because the right has completely flipped the script there.

I definitely understand the urge to try to pull this off, but I think you run into the problem the US definitely fucking has. Real news that has real impacts on people lives and are of massive importance to the entire nation becomes just another bit of noise. How do you elevate the important shit above the noise? Like I said, I think the mediums are important to adopt, you can't fight with people regarding how they want to ingest their content/information/entertainment. But yeah, I think that airing out policy points on Rogan, where as you just put it, tomorrow we talk to some random famous person about irrelevant shit for 4 hours, causes it to get lost. Walter Cronkite, once upon a time, was above the noise. How the fuck do you get important shit above it today?

like they say, the medium is the message, and today's primary medium (clips on your phone) makes everything seem equally serious/unserious
every few minutes, they'll be another clip that's just as hilarious or societally devastating
I criticized Kamala for avoiding podcasts, which was not such a popular take here, so I fully understand their electoral significance.. but it's still sad and less than ideal for a robust democracy nonetheless

it’s kindaaaaa fucked up how low the bar is to instant fame, a podcast, and a meme coin, really. age of imbeciles is definitely a thing - don’t feel like people have ever been so confidently dumb on such a scale before + have a massive following.
