OT: Cars

Yea, I like that Mercedes too, but I'm not black so I'm not allowed to get one.

At least that is my understanding.

I actually like the exterior of the Q5 alittle more than the X3 but the lease rates were better, the interior is nicer and it gets a better overall rating.

You're killing me, cork. You go out and get the soccer mom SUV that my gay buddy's mom bought him after they won the lottery.

For the soccer mom of a gay guy, yeah she does.

You still should have bought a sport sedan at minimum...preferably a coupe though.

If you wanna give a realistic second-guess, he should have waited a bit for the 328I Xdrive (awd) wagon. Basically an X3 but not on stilts.

Can't wait to load a child seat in the back of a coupe.

Believe it or not, I do forsee the girlfriend and I having little corksens in the next few years.

I appreciate your input, Mindz, but I thought long and hard about this decision and opted for the SUV on purpose...not like I am settling for a Dodge Caravan here.

Thought about that. But those won't be out for a few months and then it will be about another 9 months for the lease rates to drop from 4.9% to 1.9%.

I'm not paying more than I need to in interest.

fyi- the fat cat public servant drives a rusty '95 ford wagon. must be nice for some of you private sector car jockeys to have those fancy new wheels to write off....

You make twice what I make so don't whine that you're too cheap to spend a little on a decent vehicle.

I'm not driving anything close to what Cork drives but there's no reason that you can't drive a new CR-V or a RAV-4.

to your credit, you havent been caterwauling to come after my pension like some have here. ironcially enough, those are the same people making way more than me and contemplating buying shiny new cars they can write off.

Well considering I drive for work, the write off applies.

You going from your drive way to the school parking lot wouldn't count for a write off, obviously.

Nobody pays for anything in my life.

I pay taxes, have no benefits and no pension. Everything I own and make is directly from my own efforts. Writing off some expenses that are directly related to generating an income is in no way the same as sucking from the government teet like you do.

Fair enough....I'm just of the mind that you worry about problems as they occur, not 3-5 years prior to them occurring. Especially when it comes to vehicles...I'll very likely be moving somewhere that is sunny 12 months of the year within the next few years, but I'm not buying the convertible now.

I know why you did it, I'm just telling you that I see you making the same mistake that I've seen a bunch of my buddies make, putting practicality in front of living, getting old before their time. Next stop is realizing that I'm right and over compensating with a mid life crisis porsche or something in 10-15 years.

Nice SUV though, yeah, but for an enthusiast like yourself, driving it will always feel like there's something missing.

Don't forget the golf bag. I take my work SUV when golfing because it's just so darn easy throwing the bag in the back and leaving.

Manage your money better and you wouldn't have to drive a shit box. You make more than enough coin to drive something decent, short of having a cocaine problem, on your salary you could easily get into an entry level Bimmer on lease.
