OT: Cars

I'd be pretty happy if the brought they A3 three door over, but I'm not sure they even fit it with quattro. I'll probably end up with another A4 eventually. I was even thinking about an Allroad, as I'm probably going to buy some property in the country well north of Toronto and also need something to carry a canoe a take the nasty roads often encountered getting into to launch in the back country. Problem with the Allroad is you can't get it with a manual transmission. Grrr ... be nice if you had better options.
 
Test drive a nicely outfitted Subaru Outback, or maybe Impreza. The interiors won't be up to Audi snuff, but you'll get reasonable ground clearance, all wheel drive, generally better fuel economy, and probably cheaper insurance and repair bills. As much as I dislike them, the 4wd Mini may be up your alley as well.
 
I'm pretty loyal to Audi after this experience. I'm not keen on changing something that has worked so well. Not wild about Subarus ... considered it many times, but they just don't appeal to me at all.

I strongly disagree with most of this.

I just sold my 2009 Subaru Impreza. It was a 4-cylinder/4-speed and a total pig on gas. My BMW x3 now has better fuel economy (though I need to put a higher grade of gas). My insurance also went down by $300 a year - $25 bucks a month. It's not about the car, it's about the "average" driver that makes the ratings skewed.

Most importantly, Subarus aren't cheap. If you want anything reasonably nice (leather, sunroof, decent stereo) you are still paying $35,000. Interiors feel cheap - mostly plastic. Same thing on my parents Subaru Outback 2011. Expensive, but not all that impressive.

With that said, throw on winter tires and in the winter you have an unstoppable beast.
 
Guy who put on my winters this year said, after test driving my A4, that its control was miles beyond his Subaru (it was nasty day ... icy, snow).

corks makes a good point re: price. The A4 ain't priced much differently.
 
Meh. I've driven the A4's in the winter and it's pretty much the same as the Subaru. As long as you have AWD, quattro, xDrive and a decent clearance then winter won't be an issue.
 
Took delivery of my new car last evening.

BMW 335xi coupe, black on coral red with navi, and exec package. She is bloody awesome!

very nice choice. I love that BMW still does non-grey interiors, at least partly. Auto trans and xdrive should be a rocketship from a standing start too.

Love the red interior. So sexy. Only had my car 2 yrs and getting real sick of the grey.
 
Those won't cut it in an Ottawa winter.

There is something awesome about carpeted mats in the summer. Probably because I wear flip flops alot and drive barefoot.

Yeah they will...I have similar in my Infiniti, and they're just fine in a Barrie winter (which is nearly identical to Ottawa for average snowfall)

Not as cool as the Bimmers that everyone else is buying but we picked up a brand new 2013 "Opal Sage" CR-V a couple days ago. Love it.
