OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

It definitely sucks. But it doesn't ruin my day. Most of us here are doing what we can -- boosting, testing, isolating, protecting our older relatives.

I'm quite cautious but didn't go full hermit.

Fully expect to get this thing at some point.

My concern is more about folks (including me) who may need surprise medical attention. Being extra cautious when dicing onions and praying my appendix doesn't burst.

Thank God. I thought I was alone in that. Plus I already came to terms with this happening a month ago when we decided on a let er rip strategy. Strategy now is to do what I can to protect my unvaxxed toddler and older relatives. But if it happens, it happens. There's no failure there. This thing can spread.

It is what it is. I'm definitely taking extra caution walking down stairs too these days. Haven't slipped down the stairs in a good two months now which is a record for my clumsy ass.

On the plus side if omicron is still the enemy by April/may we're all gonna get omi boosters and the spread will be officially controlled with most of the population having terrific hybrid immunity for the following 6+ months. This may give an advantage to another variant for some time but as long as it doesn't spread like this one, we're definitely good for the summer.

Just gotta get through the next few months.

Covid never found its way to you?

It doesn’t RUIN my day either, but when you stop to think about things and look around, it’s a bleak situation at the moment. Plus I had a horrendous year with all the home problems, which are still ongoing, so I’m actually surprised I’m not in a worse state.

I also think being single during this thing but being a cautious person at the same time is a great combo for not catching it, but also a horrible combo for living for any reason other than to work. Having your wife/kids situation in place before this was key.

A lotta good things can come out of these situations. So much good has happened. So many scientific advancements, relationships built, appreciation for the little things, etc. Can't spiral out of control over things out of your control. Life is always worth living my man. Just have to find and keep doing the things that give you joy. Go with the flow.

It's funny because I think this was a great time for me to meet someone significant... I get to see their decision making process and their approach to life under moments of duress

That’s what I’m doing. Social life is just completely messed up since this started. Before, the only thing that made me hesitate to go out at night would be if I was behind on my work or if I just wasn’t in the mood. Would rarely let either get in the way. Now, I think is the place indoors, is it cold outside, a crowded place, meeting someone who has been cautious throughout this or not, are the cases overall up, and so on. And these considerations usually kill the urge because now going out has suddenly become a risk to my health and others, and a double whammy if I have to lose work time. Tough to find someone on the same page at the best of times, now it’s feeling almost like a lottery win.

That means you’re engaging in the dating process the way you were previously when there was no risk, and getting to see another side of someone’s character in crisis mode. Sure, but you gotta do the first part to get to the second, and the first part is tougher than ever for a sensible person.

Yeah that's been the main adjustment for me... Figuring out my own risk tolerance. Personally from the time I got my second dose till last month I was living nearly restriction-free with no real limitations. Now is a bit different of course and we're gonna have to get used to pulling back a bit at certain times of the year. The risk levels will yo-yo throughout the year in an endemic state.

We will all catch it many times but that doesn't mean we should let our hands off the wheel. It also doesn't mean we should never drive because we will get in an accident eventually if we do. I sympathize with folks who aren't homebodies like me but I still think we can all find some joy in the little things we do in the comfort of our own home!

Same. It’s actually making me a bit nervous now. I know several people who have gotten it twice.

Yeah...suddenly a bunch of people in my not too distant social circles are getting the hit. That wasn't the case last year. On the flip side, the worst case scenario has been prolonged misery, nothing life threatening.

Like submitted, but prolonged misery is a dangerous thing too, on many levels.

Yeah your situation is different with that bit and I'm sorry about that pain you're going through. Hope you get it resolved.
Working on it. I’m optimistic by the end of March, I’ll have turned things around. I’m the process of trying to make big changes.

That's true. Now is a horrible time to go on a first date...or the house party that leads to it. The window, in hindsight of course, was post 2nd shot to November. Preston will alert the board when the window re-opens, providing he doesn't slip or burn his home with his new Japanese kitchen gadget.

My client introduced me to this one girl (one of those “you have to meet her” deals). I was like, nah, too old and coming off a divorce after being with some guy for 15 years since she was super young. But this girl then sends me messages on the dating apps and social media. Finally she outright emails me - on a work pretense - which I then couldn’t ignore because of my client.

Anyway, long story short, I agree to meet her one night a couple weeks ago at a restaurant I figured was pretty free on a random Tuesday night. Well, the outdoor area was booked and the indoor area was packed. I took it in stride and pretended all was good, but the whole time in the back of my mind, I was like, fuck, I’m catching covid because of this totally unnecessary meet up. Normally I’d be like, who cares, one night, meet someone new and learn about them. Now, it’s like how stupid am I to be out right now. Tough to date with this situation and the cautious mindset.
