OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

The fact that cruises are going to be up and running in August is absolutely insane.

Carnival swamped with cruise bookings after announcing August return

Cruise Planners, a company that books cruises on the world’s largest cruise ship line, said bookings shot up by 600% when they announced that cruises would begin August 1. The spike is a 200% increase over the same time period last year.
The travel company told TMZ that those booking the cruises were “not a bit concerned about traveling at this time” because many said they were healthy and looking forward to having fun after being in lockdown for months.

Not surprised in the least. Exactly what I had figured would happen.

that's why i fully disagree with those on here who say pro sports are fucked and no fans will return for a long time.

I don't disagree with the notion that there's absolutely no shortage of dumbasses who'd rush to pack the stands if the NHL or NBA announced today that they were fully resuming their schedules this coming week with games open to the fans.

Without a doubt, you could probably also find places in the US where the Trump-worshiping local governments would be happy to host the games.

Where I disagree is with anyone who:

  • Thinks there's any safe way for the NHL or NBA to finish playing out their 2019/20 schedules.

  • Doesn't believe that any of the half-baked ideas ("hub cities", isolated players, empty stands) being floated to play out those games wouldn't quickly fall apart like a badly constructed house of cards if put into action.

  • Thinks that any local government or public health authority worth a damn will consent to let it happen in their backyards.

Oh yeah, for sure. I mean, if the leagues decide to open up and let people in the park, you're going to get a ton of people going. I think most of the contingencies being planned still assume that you're going to get like a 15 minute test available that they could use to screen people on the way into the park.

I've been pretty vocal that pro sports coming back isn't a good idea but it has absolutely nothing to do with fans wanting/not wanting to go.

I have no doubt people are dumb enough.
