OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Hahhaha

Muhahahhahha

You are part of the problem.

You.

Are you being serious? So you think it's okay to storm and empty out a Target because of what happened? Mass shoplifting from a company that has no racist ties or tendencies that I'm aware of is an acceptable response to the injustice? You think that actually helps the situation? I get the attack on the police station, for instance, because there's a direct relationship there, but a lot of the rest of this has nothing to do with the problem and everything to do with people taking advantage of the situation in their own self-interest.

i'd be pretty pissed if people of my color were getting routinely murdered on the street by the authorities. Not sure how rational I'd be.

So the looting is just people being confused and not knowing how to properly react to the situation then? It's not because they have a chance at a large scale five fingered discount that has nothing do with the poor guy who got killed?

I mean personally I think you're outraged about the lesser outrage.

There's not even anything close to resembling a grey area in this situation.

The crime he was alleged to have committed was super lame (writing a bad check, for real?). He was just sitting there outside when they pulled up. He wasn't accused of trying to hurt anyone. He had no weapons. He didn't resist. They handcuffed him and had him on the ground with four officers. . And even when they realized they couldn't find a pulse they kept going for a few minutes. All on video.

We shouldn't be surprised that people are so angry that they resorted to damaging property when that something like that isn't dealt with swiftly.

No, there's no connection between them. That's my whole point really.

I think it's a travesty what happened. That was murder and the cop should get a significant jail sentence. So he goes unarrested no matter how much media exposure is devoted to the incident, then yeah, setting fire to the police station, doing the same to the DA's office, those make sense to me.

There is absolutely no connection and no reason to be looting stores however. That's a different outrage, and a lesser one, but one nonetheless.

So if you owned a store or a restaurant there, and they fucking destroyed it and your entire livelihood, you'd be like "yeah, the cop murdered that guy, so I fully support the destruction of my life", right?

Look man the cops murder them in the street and get away with it on the reg.

I don't think you're actually considering what that would feel like to you.

I'm jewish. I have a bit of a history in what that feels like.

But like I said, this response isn't exactly an eye for an eye. There's zero justification for some of the fallout.

Are they murdering people in the streets? Because that is the eye they're responding to.

LOF I love you but you're missing the point on this one. The country is at war with an entire race. This is how they're fighting back. Plans A B C D F G etc didn't work. They're at a loss. So naturally things are going to get ugly even if not all the actions are rational (which btw I don't condone the looting). But I get it tbh.

Interestingly enough, that's actually what the owners of a restaurant in the area that got destroyed said.

Look, do I think the destruction of property is okay in a vacuum? No, of course I don't. I'm just not surprised at all. It's not this one incident in the US, it's incident after incident after incident. They feel like they're under attack and I can't pretend for a second to know what that must feel like.
