OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

that's an 8.6% death rate for the record, though of course they're not testing everybody, just the ones in clear need.

This is exactly what needs to be avoided here and why the call for more hospital beds, ventilators are so important. If we get the numbers that are expected and don't get the extra equipment, the death rate will shoot up big time here because patients literally have to fend for themselves with no assistance. Doctors making calls on who gets ventilators in Italy and literally sentencing the others to death is legit batshit crazy.

Can’t cpaps be used in less severe cases? It certainly helps me when I’m short of breath. Obviously severe cases need ventilators, are you expecting the amount of severe cases to exceed supply? That’s a worse case scenario no?

On the news today it said we are at about 90% capacity of ventilators already. A large sharp spike of need is very plausible.

Omega Man. give it a watch.

I feel reasonably confident about slowing the spread in Canada due to the strong reaction in the last week or so. Same goes for the US but to a much lesser extent. The only thing that can really be done right now is starve the fucker and get some meds available pronto.

Sort of. Ours are a hollywood retelling of a true story. Theirs are Lord of the Rings level fantasy.

exactly. Our testing numbers are not ideal but they’re 5x per capita. And none of our major cities are hotspots like NYC, where medical professionals are freaking out.

New Peter Attia podcast, 2nd interview with Dr. Peter Hotez:

We discuss:
  • How to gauge true number of infected people [5:45]
  • Reducing the probability of getting infected [22:45]
  • Inconsistency by country in infected young people [27:15]
  • Conferred immunity, seasonality, and repurposed therapeutics [30:30]
  • Vaccine development [39:30]
  • Practical behaviors to reduce risk of transmission [46:00]
  • Mental Health resource and funding [51:00]
  • Points of optimism [56:00]; and
  • More.

Here we go:

New recommendation from medical associations now want doctors to fully gown and wear PPE prior to treating any kind of critical patient (related to COVID or any other patient who is coming in needing resuscitation). Meaning if a guy comes in in cardiac arrest, doctors are now having to fully grown and dawn which can take up to a minute or longer before they are allowed to even touch a patient. If there is not proper access to this equipment it can take much longer. So the guy can literally be frothing from the mouth with no pulse and we are now not allowed to touch them for at least a minute.

Expect death rates to start rising, and not just from COVID. If the PPE issue is not addressed this becomes full out anarchy.
