OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

You guys realize that the peel UCC is a limited capacity site that has been closed for most of the past 2 years right?

One of my cousins is a nurse at a hospital in Toronto and I don't think she's gonna make it out of this wave. She's breaking down and really wants to quit but it's tough when you've got no backup plan. Anecdotal, but she says it's infinitely worse and more chaotic there than any other wave (not that we needed an anecdote to confirm that).

So then what’s the story here?

I’m not saying our system is efficient, has capacity, etc. - it obviously isn’t seeing as that hospitals had more people admitted than they had beds before covid - but in this case they’re closing an understaffed non ED clinic to better allocate resources in the ED.

I think there’s burnout speaking. I’m April 2020 people were dying because they didn’t know how to treat them. Different times and pressures, but “infinitely worse” it is not.

Well she's a nurse not a doctor. It's way busier than ever, they're more understaffed and over-worked than ever. So yeah, I believe it's infinitely worse for her. She's one of the few who hasn't caught omicron so she hasn't really gotten any breaks since the holidays. It's a shitshow.

Added to the understaffing because of staff getting covid is schools being closed. Some staff having to stay home to look after their kids. The same is happing with other sectors of the workforce.

Perhaps our provincial government should have taken this shit seriously at any point in the last 18 months or so and implemented the air filtration suggestions that were being put forward by experts.

They would have had to admit that covid was airborn to do that, so nah, here we are.

Chatting with our kindy teacher online today as my kiddo was the only one to show for small group, four of our class mates and their families have had this since Christmas. Not including us. That’s out of 23.
Both online teaching and online learning are a skill that takes quite a while to learn and develop. What they're offering for virtual school across jurisdictions is fucking garbage.
