OT: Food & Drink Thread - Where to Go, What to Eat, etc.

I have a bit of high cholesterol and pretty high Triglyceride, have to go easy on food with high level of carbohydrates like Rice and bread and red meat which is really hard, i am big red meat and rice and bread fan :(.

Bread is raising your Triglycerides. Mine were ridiculously high too. I once had a doctor show me a study that people from the East (Eastern Europe, Middle East) are predisposed to it far more than Asians and Western Europeans. No explanation why, just that sub-category. I once had a Trygliceride reading over 1000. My diet changed right then and there. Now I maintain around 200. If you have an issue, use Omega-3 Fish Oil.

I actually takes Omega-3 Fish Oil, i guess i get your Dr logic, we eat lots of rice. I usually run for half an hour to 1 hour per day, plus in my former job i was always walking constantly and was rarely at my desk, i had moved and was kind of not very active for while and i guess that explain why. Man, 1000 is really high, so you were on pills i guess, mine is 350, anything over than 200 is considered high.

I cut white toast, eat 3 slices of Multi-Grain per day, i eat 5 tablespoon of brown rice per day as well, also eating red meat once in two week, usually trying to eat Salmon fish, Chicken tender breast which has not much of fat, but i have to admit i love stake, Kabab and red meat and is hard to resist.lol

A few yrs back my Doc wanted me to take cholesterol meds because my levels were slightly high. I cut the eggs and butter and it went down. My prob is burgers and pizza, don't need anything else.

no meds

Usually unless ur cholestrol is very high they don't make you take pills, normally by doing exercise and watching your diet it should work. Yes fast food is worst enemy when it comes to cholesterol and if you are not physically active that makes it worst.

Pistachio's also help lower cholesterol, 25. You guys have the best pistachio's too. They helped lower mine to avoid meds along with cutting eggs and dairy like I mentioned. And still get away with pizza and burgers, ty God.

It is true, i take nuts and pistachio as well but i have to be moderate on that, i had kidney stone last year and my stone was base on calcium oxalate, a lot of nuts products elevate your level of oxalate, man that kidney stone pain was worst pain i ever had. So crazy.

Quartier Perse is excellent and it's a 5 minute walk from where I live. My only complaint is that it's a little slow. It is pricey, but you know that going in anyway.

I used to walk by in front of that place for years when I had to go to school & I had no idea it was a restaurant. It didn't have a big sign or anything.

I know the owner, very tall guy and his wife, the guy used to be part of Iran national team water polo team back to 70. He has his own idea about restaurant and some time is weird, i also noticed the sign issue. He has his select customers, lots of Jewish people, if i am not wrong they owe the place from late 90s, before was Persian restaurant but under another ownership. I used to live also 15-20 minutes walk from there too when i was in Montreal years back.

Any one try Crown Royal Northern Harvest yet? I got a bottle for shits and giggles. Will report back when I'm hammered.

any groans n' runs in the morning?

Nah, I took it easy. I've learned that a hangover the morning of the kids' swimming lessons is unpleasant.

Anyway, re: Northern Harvest... had one serving, neat. Jury is still out. Will open it up a bit and do another taste test.

Off Topic:Good news for me:). My Triglyceride is now 108, from 351 to 108(<150 is normal) and cholesterol is 168(<200 is normal), i lost something like 20 Ibs in 3 months. I wasn't overweighted anyway but this whole story scared me and i had good mixture of diet and exercise to achieve this.

I once had Triglycerides close to 1000. Yeah, that's when I knew I had to stop eating my own cooking...

I changed life's menu. I too have lost 22 lbs in the past 3 months. Feeling so much better.
