OT: MLB Thread

The fact I am paying their salary to work is more than sufficient reason. Unlike me who if I dog it during the day, I have to stay late or work weekends, staff just goes home at their regular time.

It was bad enough when it was the local team, but this team is based 4500km away and has no real ties to this city.

It's what Vancouverites do best: hop on bandwagons.

When I first moved here in 92, the city went crazy when the Jays won the WS. In those days, you could buy tickets to a Canucks playoff game at the box office window 30 minutes before the opening face-off because nobody cared about the team. Most of their games weren't even televised and I remember knowing people who would decide whether or not to go to a game based on TV coverage. If the game was being shown on TV they wouldn't bother buying tickets.

Then in 1994 the Canucks fluke their way to the finals and my uncle, who at the time was the Executive VP of a major bank for the BC region had to close all branches at noon on the day of Game 7 against the Rangers because no one was doing a lick of work.

20 years ago this month, in October 1995, everyone in Vancouver was wearing Mariners caps because Seattle was playing in the ALCS. You didn't see any Blue Jays caps in the city that year. Back then, most Seahawks home games were blacked out because they couldn't sell out the Kingdome and no one in BC gave a damn about them. But in the past few years as the Seahawks have enjoyed success the Vancouver parasites have climbed aboard that bandwagon too. Vancouverites will pimp themselves out to any flavour of the month team they can find. That's why their hockey team never keeps the same uniform or logo design for longer than five minutes. They're the most fairweather fans in all of sports.

You actually started mocking us years ago when the Leafs were making the Eastern Conference Finals fairly regularly from 1993-2002 and the city got excited. Then every single Canadian team's fans started copying the practice.

So which is it? Are the supposedly magnanimous Canadiens above such peasant celebrations or do you embrace it like Montreal appears to have for the last few postseason series victories?

This is correct. The mocking started with the Leafs from other fans during the Quinn years. The Flames then did it in 04' and it became so cool!
