OT: MLB Thread

what a joke
The reason they use to rationalize it is the fact that because the stadium is built on top of a Metro station it's not possible to demolish it without destroying the subway line. All that poured concrete is hard to get rid of. But why a new roof? Just dismantle the damn thing as much as possible without endangering the Metro line. Anything else has to be cheaper than replacing the roof and technical ring.

Jesus titty-fucking Christ.

for $870 million they could build a stadium downtown for the Expos instead of doing maintenance work on a white elephant.

you don't want govt money for a stadium

I don't and neither the city of Montreal nor the Province of Quebec were willing to spend taxpayer money on one. But they are seemingly willing to spend a commensurate amount to keep this mausoleum from collapsing under its own weight. So the taxpayers wind up not getting an MLB team but they do still get a bill for what a new stadium would have cost had they got an MLB team. The worst of both worlds.

Seulement au Quebec.

it is probably just a trial balloon and once they hear the people think it is a developmentally delayed decision (hell the people on Love on the Spectrum and Down for Love on Netflix couldn't have come up with a worse plan), they will decide not to proceed and implode the stadium.

They may not be able to implode it due to the Metro line underneath. They may need to dismantle it like they did with the old Champlain Bridge. This will also cost money but it will only get spent once, not every 5-10 years as other parts of it break down.

Nobody does fictitious ballpark renderings better than Montreal.

You know what you never see in any of these drawings? Montreal taxpayers patting themselves on the back for spending their money on the stadium instead of hospitals or schools.
