OT: MLB Thread

According to my trusty facebook sources, all of USA outside LA wants the BJ's to win too, so it's really Canada vs Japan, and since our captain is a Suzuki that means there's no reason for any of us to cheer for Toronto.

Nostalgia of a time gone with the wind. Like the lost cause myth, people like to remember them as good but if you look, they were only good as follows

79 80 81 82. 87 93 94 96, so maybe 8 of 36 seasons.

Attendance was shit most of the time, and for the most part they did nothing but let the fans down.

The myth is they were massively loved all over Quebec and Canada is not true. Once the Blue Jays got decent in 1983, the Expos became an after thought outside Montreal.

The fact no one local would buy the team nor build the rink shows no one cared enough to save them.

There ain’t many billionaires in QC.
No local stepped in to buy the Habs around the same time (and they were never in trouble)
George Gillet actually restored the CH brand by holding a bunch of jersey retirement ceremonies

He got the team and the Bell Centre for pennies on the dollar. But at that time, the Canadian dollar was closer to a peso so potential Canadian owners couldn't afford the exchange rate.
