OT: MLB Thread

I am constantly amazed at how you are a pie in the sky guy re a franchise that never won a damn thing and was lower than .500 the majority of the years it existed given how you rip the Canadiens a new one for losing a preseason game.

The Habs are held to a higher standard. They aren't plucky underdogs. They are high-profile royalty. If hockey were equated to the story of David and Goliath the Habs would be Goliath. In baseball, teams like the Royals and Rays are very much the "Davids" of the league.

So the Jays faded on the final weekend and won't get the wild card winner. They get the Rangers instead while the Royals will play the winner of the Astros/Yankees game.

Let's go Texas!

Rusty Staub recovering after suffering heart attack on international flight

Baseball legend Rusty Staub is recovering in an Ireland hospital after suffering a heart attack on a flight back to New York this week.

According to multiple reports, Staub was traveling back on Monday when the incident occurred. Two doctors on board were able to revive Staub and keep him stable until the plane could return to Ireland. Staub was taken into emergency surgery and is now recovering, but many of his friends and fans have been working to get Staub back home so his recovery can continue at home.

According to the New York Daily News, a man named Stephen Marro, who says he’s a friend of the Staub family started a GoFundMe page with the goal to raise the $60,000 for a medical plane to bring Staub home. As of this writing, the campaign was closing in on $4,000.

Ichiro Suzuki's fastball peaked at 87 MPH

Appears he threw a changeup & slider too.

Career ERA: 9.00

Staub has had some trouble with his health in his older years.

Some are questioning whether this is a scam because little has been reported about it... I think it happened a week ago... and not much money has been raised for the flight considering how many fans he had in his career and how much money he helped raised for charities in his life.

I saw a couple of reports but they were all "Former Met Rusty Staub". No mention whatsoever about being an Expos icon. He had his share of fans as a Met but he was never "the" guy like he was in Montreal.

its been so long and i am not young anymore. It would be pretty hard to rekindle the passion.
If Montreal did get a team back, would be tough to figure out who to cheer for. I haven't lived in Montreal for 20 years now. And one of the big reasons why I've gotten invested in the Jays is knowing they're led by a Montrealer in Anthopoulos.

As for the Jays, they're the best team in the AL, and have been the best team in the AL all season long (even if their record the first half didn't show it, their peripheral stats were still tops). But After the Jays, probably the next 5 best teams are the 5 in the NL who made the playoffs, so if they do make the World Series, it'll be a great showdown. But can't get overconfident - they need to come out strong in the division series and put the struggles of the last 4 days behind them, get back to the powerhouse team that couldn't lose.

My sources tell me that preseason sales for Jays vs Redsox in Montreal is doing very, very well. I'd be shocked if we didn't surpass '15
