What did the Blue Jays ever do to you? You claim that you're supposedly from Toronto, so what gives with the malice? I know plenty of people from the GTA that aren't Leafs fans, but nearly everyone is universally a Jays supporter.
I'm not from Toronto. I'm from Montreal. But thanks to Quebec politics my family moved to Toronto when I was a kid. I spent my formative years crosing my fingers every Saturday night hoping that channel 12 out of Peterborough would be showing the Habs game (or at least that channel 2 out of Buffalo would have a Sabres game on) so I wouldn't be stuck watching the Leafs. Harold Ballard ensured that the Radio-Canada affiliate in Toronto was prohibited from showing the Habs as well. Additionally, I had to go to school with delusional Leafs fans who would try to convince me with a straight face that Darryl Sittler was better than Lafleur or that Mike Palmateer was better than Dryden.
And then in 1977 the Blue Jays came along and all of a sudden I was having a hard time finding Expos games on TV or radio anymore. And, as usual, there was Toronto fan who immediately began strutting around like they had invented the game of baseball.
As soon as I graduated high school I got the hell out of there and never went back, except to visit, and only then because the rest of my immediate family still lives there. One of the main attractions about moving to the West Coast, aside from the weather, was the fact that it's about as far away from Toronto as one can get without emigrating to another country.
So if you think I'm just going to sit here and allow the bandwagon-fan/media fellatio of the Blue Jays to pass without comment, you've got another think coming. My mission in life is to make Toronto sports fans suffer, as I was made to suffer and as the national media is still trying to make me suffer. I give them no quarter, at least here. I stopped visiting the Leafs board because like I said in another post, trying to educate the willfully stupid is a thankless and futile full-time job.
I suppose you could say I've mellowed.
In any case, I don't expect a Toronto fan to be able to relate to any of this because as a Leafs/Jays fan you've always had things your own way. You've never had to pore through an internet discussion thread trying to find a live stream to your team's games because your team is always on and always available to the exclusion of everyone else's preferences. That is what has allowed you to grow up smug and entitled.
