OT: Movies/TV Shows

I haven't plowed through a show in awhile but I finally got to watching la casa de papel (money heist). The concept never interested me so I delayed. Just finished it; solid television progrum. Not quite consistent throughout but high highs and ended strong.

that was next on my list...still is

Season 4 wasn't as over-the-top, acting was good - I really liked the kid. Story was more political, less "shock".

I liked the kid too. That was maybe the only good, meaningful writing. And he's a good actor.

But you can't go out with a cliffhanger bang like they did in S3, and then start S4 like a total dud with zero consequences. The copout killed the momentum the rest of the way.

I was actually speaking to one of the lawyers at Viacom who handles that show today, and I told her she really misled me when she told me last year the S4 scripts coming in were amazing. She said she agreed, S4 wasn't great and for some reason the scripts didn't translate as well onto the screen. She also mentioned they were fucked up the last two episodes because of covid, so who knows, maybe it was supposed to be different? Covid would honestly be the only explanation for the "you saw a wolf? Well then it's time for the Indian ritual of go sit in a square in the wilderness with no food or water for 4 days till you realize something idiotic." It's like he literally had to be outdoors and away from anyone for two weeks and that's what they came up with.

The only issue with watching Dallas now is that I think you can only stream it on Amazon? I tried watching a couple of episodes when I browsed through their putrid interface, and the episodes are poor quality, grainy and ugly. Would tarnish the experience. Not sure if it's streaming elsewhere in better quality, but that's how you need to see it. I know iTunes, but then you're paying specifically for it.

Man, Amazon sucks. Bezos could literally just shave off one day's worth of his stock appreciation and turn it into the same quality service as Netflix, but dude just can't spare a dime.

Is this a thing? Or is it because it was filmed in 1978?

No, it's a thing. If you were to pop in a Dallas DVD, you'd get much, much better quality than the grainy streamed Amazon version.

Certain cable channels too, they'll have a low quality version of the recording that they play, while others will show a better quality version. Not sure the reason - maybe it's a technical thing on the channel's end, where they don't have as high end tech as another channel's or what.

Take Family Ties. When I see a rerun show up on cable, it's terrible quality. But if I were to stream my iTunes version of the same episode, it's a world of difference.
