OT: Movies/TV Shows

So you're saying that the documentary about the historical events would be boring but the fakey Hollywood movie about it is awesome?

Ryan prides itself on its gritty realism. that's its entire M.O. but the plot isn't realistic.

Saving Private Ryan was fine, after the brilliant opening.....but to zeke's point I never find myself jonesing to watch it again. I think I've only seen it twice, at most.

It's definitely overrated though, on the whole.
It’s hard to rewatch, but for a different reason - that’s a very anxiety inducing film. My nerves are frayed in the opening, and my heart gradually breaks as it goes on from there. You definitely have to be in a certain mood to watch it again.

I find the saving private Ryan part more rewatchable than the Normandy bit tbh. The Normandy intro is beyond incredible but it's emotionally exhausting.

doesn't stop you from watching the Leafs playoffs year after year
Oh I’m pretty numbed out when it comes to them. And I’ve noticed it each year more and more. Before, my heart would be pounding during close games and OT’s. Now I’m just like sitting there going, please don’t fuck us like every year, you shitheads. I was pretty damn excited when Tavares eliminated TB, thinking that we had turned the side, but then we got swept into the Florida waters.

The voiceovers were mostly quoted directly from the book. A book largely considered a literary masterpiece.

“If I never meet you
In this life
Let me feel the lack
A glance from your eyes
Then my life
Will be yours”

“This great evil, where's it come from? How'd it steal into the world? What seed, what root did it grow from? Who's doing this? Who's killing us, robbing us of life and light, mocking us with the sight of what we might've known? Does our ruin benefit the earth, does it help the grass to grow, the sun to shine? Is this darkness in you, too? Have you passed through this night?”

still cringe and mildly funny after all these years. (as I recall the og voice)...very possible a better actor could have saved it.
