OT: Movies/TV Shows

On one hand, that's too bad because I fuck with Anthony Mackie.

On the other hand though, fuck this whole sports/culture washing bullshit that petro authoritarian fuckshow is trying to slide by the rest of us in an attempt to normalize their barbarism and bullshit. I love watching it, their golf thing, and Neom fail in spectacular and expensive fashion.

In an ensemble he's fine but yeah can't carry a movie. He can carry a show though. Altered Carbon and Falcon + Winter Soldier were good.

Winter Soldier is probably one of those things tht would have succeeded regardless who was cast

The movie? Yeah. I'm talking about the series though. They did a season of Falcon & Winter Soldier with Mackie and Sebastien Stan that was good. Tackled some racial issue stuff about a black Captain America, some other stuff about Sam being just a guy with fancy wings fighting against enhanced people, etc.

It was good, tackled some issues that marvel comics have traditionally not been afraid to tackle (Mutants, of course, were invented to be a vehicle Marvel used to critique US race relations of the era) that I'm surprised Disney let Kevin Feige get into.

Yeah, CA couldnt get a bank loan, it was well done, i just think if Mackie was recast it still does well.

Sure, but that goes for most of the Marvel supporting roles. Sebastien Stan could be subbed in with a dozen tall, white, and mysterious hollywood B list guys and no one would notice. I love Don Cheadle, but they're hardly taxing his acting chops in the War Machine role, ditto with the Hawkeye, Jane Foster, Pepper Potts roles. Mark Ruffalo is fine but 1000 actors could play Banner.

Mackie is a pretty stiff actor, but that works fine when you're playing military, ex military, cops, etc which is most of what he does. They're stiff people generally speaking. To his credit though, he said no to the mini series because he thought it would suck and they didn't get him on board until they had a script he was happy with. So even if his acting isn't why it was good, he played a role in them doing it well regardless.

my issue with mackie is that he doesn't convincce me on the toughguy act. i dunno it;'s weird.

i'm with you on most of the other B/C list actors there too.

though i think the A-listers like ruffalo and gwyneth and scarlett easily show why they're a different class of actor even in those roles.

Fair. I guess I've seen him in too much shit that I liked, and I liked him in. The Banker, Hurt Locker, Detroit, Altered Carbon.
