OT: Movies/TV Shows

slightly OT... but Louis CK is playing the ACC on Jan 26th and he's worked it so that the most expensive tickets are 65 bucks I got greens today for 55 and he's made ticketmaster put 0 service charges so my two tickets were 110 total. What he also does as well is release the etickets at a later date and if there is a transfer of that ticket to another person (scalpers) they have the right to ban you.

I think it's an awesome idea and this will now lead me to see him for a second time.

That's pretty cool. I listened to his Carnegie Hall special over the weekend and it was fantastic. Maybe i should grab a ticket.

How the hell did he manage that?

I was under the impression that, due to their virtual monopoly when it comes to the venues they control, performers had zero power when it comes to ticketmaster.

Louis is calling their bluff, and hopefully other big acts will follow.
I remember Pearl Jam tried the same thing when they were at the height of their popularity, and it failed miserably for them.

Great news if some artists having some more success with it now, though. The whole Ticketmaster/Stubhub business model needs to die in a fire already.

$15 "service fees" for the resell tickets I bought 2 weeks ago, and that's PER TICKET!

Movie theatres seem to have no problems selling seats, delivering tickets in both physical/digital form and accepting all forms of payment without tacking on exorbitant fees.

I think the difference between Louis and Pearl Jam is that Louis provided proof of concept before he told the entire industry to **** off. He started releasing his own shit online for like 5 bucks, and then booked a tour (or a few) and sold tickets directly

He showed that he didn't need these people, and they came crawling back to him when he wanted to do an arena tour.

RIP Carrie Fisher ... it sure is tragic as she's only 60.

I guess it also complicates things for the SW franchise as it was Solo who died in TFA (VII), not Leia. Now they probably have to rewrite the script and write Leia out of the consequent stories... which is just too bad.

BTW I watched Rogue one over the weekend ... as a SW fan I enjoyed it because of all the homage it made to Star Wars VI (A new hope) but as a standalone movie, it was pretty average (which is also the sentiment of most of my non-SW fans who went to watch together with me) .... I'd rank Empire (V) first, and I'd rank the SW movies so far ...

1. Empire Strikes back (V)
2. The Force Awakens (VII)
3. A New Hope (IV)
4. Rogue One (3.5)
5. Jedi Returns (VI)

I won't rank I-III as they're not worthy of ranking .... :p

Filming is already complete for Episode VIII, so she'll be in that one. Apparently she has a much larger role than "The Force Awakens", too.

But they'll probably have to make some major changes to the third movie in the trilogy, depending on what the fate of her character was by the end of Episode VIII.

Spoilers for Rogue One

They used CGI to do the scene at the end of Rogue One. If they wanted a limited scene with her in Episode 9 they could CGI it. They probably couldn't do anything long or complex though.

Spoilers for Rogue One

The Tarkin character was also done through CGI (the actor died in the 90s). For minor roles and cameos, they could likely get away with it, but it still had some flaws in it. How they handle her for episode 9 will certainly spark a lot of debate.

Just recast the role, respectfully of course. If the story was deemed to be finished - why mess with it if you don't have to?

<spoiler?>Exactly what they should have done with the Tarkin character in Rogue One as well.
