OT or not OT that is the question.......

You know me... I post wherever there's action. I just know how people are on here. It's not so much that they don't like the extra click. It's more that if they don't see the thread on the main board they aren't going to click into the sub-forum and look for new threads. Of course some will... but most won't.

Or I could be wrong... wtf do I know?

I wouldn't mind an OT forum or subforum to talk OT topics with other board members. I'm not that interested to talk hockey with Leafs fans most of the time but I don't mind it for OT topics. But yeah, I also like to see all the topics on one page.

We have those kind of boards... they're dead.

Yeah I figured, I know I pretty much only visit this board, and the Leafs' one once in a blue moon.

You must be gun shy after starting the immensely unpopular OT: Random Chat/Check In thread on the Tampa Board.

Haha, seriously, I have no idea WTF was that about. Too "coherent" to be a pocket post and yet not coherent enough to be a virus. I have no idea how that happened. Can a mod delete that thread?

Ah yes, blame it on the "virus"

still leaves us with a lot of OT threads....and counting.

I think Ben made a valid point about his reason for posting here and what originally attracted him (and probably others) to ForumIce. I believe we've gotten away from our original premise of being 'first and foremost'....a hockey board.

At this time we have strayed away from that. It's not just that new users aren't overwhelming us, lots of one time frequent posters, are no longer......and I'm not sure why, but supporting the status quo doesn't seem to be the answer to me.

Yes but we can only debate Therrien's incompetence or Eller's underachievement or DD's legitimacy so much before we all get bored. The thing that people enjoy talking about more than anything are trades, which almost never happen anymore. And when the Habs are winning there's not enough to bitch about. So if we lose all the OT threads we'll be left with flame wars between individual posters, the frequency of which has increased this season due to the lack of things the Habs are giving us to complain about. At least when Gauthier was GM we had a common enemy.

there's fresh news about the Habs virtually every day in the press that we can highlight and discuss. Much of it having nothing to do with Therrien's incompetence or Eller's underachievement or DD's legitimacy either. The Kassian and Lou Marsh threads today are just two of many examples to come, no way they get the same attention buried in a mega thread. There's enough proof of that.

Besides, a new sub forum wouldn't have to be the end of OT's on the Hab board. Other sport OT's could remain (like we have now), while all non sport convo moves into a more open ended sub forum, which is just as accessible as any other thread on the board.

You've got to be kidding.

The number of threads (OT or otherwise) does not bother me. In fact, I prefer it when they are specific. It takes seconds to scan the thread titles -- it takes much longer to wade through a thread to find the desired content.
I think the solution is an OT sub forum with individual OT threads based on topic. It cleans up the Hockey board and allows those to peruse the OT section quickly to see if there is a topic they're interested in discussing.

win/win IMHO.

This for me.
