OT: Soccer thread

There will be no shit talk about Snarl Gattuso! One of my favourites of all time.

Disclaimer: all my comments about footie should be viewed the lens of a mediocre defensive MF whose main skills were to foul more skilled players and generally be an obstructive asshole in the middle of the park.

According to the ELO ratings, Copa featured the #2,5,10,11,20,21,25,27,34 & 63. That's ~25% of the top national sides on the planet.

Not as impressive as a Euro, but I don't know that it's as far off as being suggested....

And they play for keeps, less jaded than the Euros.

About 5-6 years ago Chile played with talent and venom. Really tough tournament team. They won back to back Copas. Good team. They almost took out Brazil in 2014 at the WC before Germany carpet bombed the Maracana in the SFs.

TBD. He stepped up in big games on Juve too; has a knack for big moments. He was pretty raw for awhile but showed signs that he was coming into his own this year. Still young so we'll see how he develops.

Is Chiesa that good or did he go on a heater

people were super angry when this 23yr old didn't start at the beginning of the tournament.

He's been a regular in Serie A since age 19. Stalwart on all the U19, U20, U21 sides. Debuted for the Azzurri at age 20. Regular for the biggest Serie A team at age 23 where he was arguably their best offensive player.

he's really good.
