OT: Soccer thread

Bunch of players that haven't played together much. They looked dangerous for most of the game. The counter attack defense was scary though. I'm fairly confident they'll look better as the qualifying goes on. A lot of draws last night so not behind the 8 ball yet.

Yeah I blame nerves/excitment really. not the coach. haven't seen them that disorganized since i started watching them again.

I also think the individual defenders just aren't very good, so those turnovers are extra dangerous.

There was a tactical change made at HT.

I thought there were too many gazelles on the pitch in H1, needed a stronger pivot higher up the pitch to close space and distribute. Instead, they played a very vertical game with low probability long passes that Honduras easily managed by lying deep. This also led to numerous counters that exposed Buchanan, more than once.

We were more compact in H2 and the ball distribution was better, creating gaps in their D. Hoilett made a difference.

The minute by minute is worth a read, excellent British wit.

tl;dr Argies broke Brazil’s quarantine rules. Brazilian health officials handled the matter with impeccably shambolic incompetence.

Oh, the Guinea - Morocco qualifier was also abandoned due to a military coup.

The Moroccan players were trapped in their hotel for a while, but apparently they are now safely away from Conakry and are flying home.

I was was gonna dump on Larin. Then he scored.

Still, for a team built on a fearsome wing/pincer attack, the guys going to the posts need to to do more.

Bah. No Davies, which was a worry when he limped off.

OK, let’s see this depth in action. I much preferred Buchanan against the US, let see if he can cause chaos out on the wing.
