OT: The News Thread

Re: OT - The News Thread

If this were a court of law, and not partisan parliamentary hearings, this guys testimony would be tossed out faster than a salad.

He is totally UN-credible. He's been openly angry at the government for not "protecting" he and his family to let them all come to Canada after he worked as a translator.

Furthermore, nothing he said can be supported by any evidence. All he's provided is the ability to goto Afghanistan and visit the alleged dead boys family...which proves...nothing.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Canadians take it right up the arse though. When they introduced that GST, I was the only protestor on the steps at the Parliament buildings, I should have known right there and then it was hopeless for us.

Well, in fairness Teeds, most people of the world have a lot more to protest than we do.

Not to say that we're not apathetic, we definitely are. But if something was serious enough to "require" the type of resistance seen on those pictures I actually have quite a bit of faith in the Quebecois to get the party started.

Re: OT - The News Thread

Even though you can point to Gilgamesh well before the Noah story, I have no problem believing there was a massive flood that covered "the world"...as the people of the area knew it at the time.

If you leave the religious nuts and the die hard atheists out of it, there is lots of evidence to support a claim of flooding, and the distinct possibility that it might have been anticipated...hence the "Ark".

Anyways, if they have found it my problem is the above mentioned religious nuts and the stupidity that will ensue.

Re: OT - The News Thread

The epic flood tale as outlined in the Bible has been definitively proven to have been the result of the expansion of the Black Sea thanks to the inundation of the Bosphorous due to climatic change around 5,000 years ago. Nothing more and nothing less.

Hey!! "Facts" and "science" have no place in this story!!

Some have argued[citation needed] that the resulting massive flooding of the inhabited and probably farmed northern shores of the Black Sea is thought to be the historic basis for the flood stories found in the Epic of Gilgamesh and in the Bible in Book of Genesis, Chapters 6-9. On the other hand, there is also evidence for a flood of water going in the opposite direction, from the Black Sea into the Sea of Marmara[citation needed] around 7000 or 8000 BC.

It is also said in myth that floating rocks known as the Symplegades or Clashing Rocks once crushed any ship that attempted passage of the Bosporus until the hero Jason obtained passage, whereupon the rocks became fixed, and Greek access to the Black Sea was opened.

define "definitely proven".

Re: OT - The News Thread

Huh? I'm arguing against the religious zealots by stating that there is a largely agreed-upon scientific explanation for the flood tale.

Re: OT - The News Thread

I think everyone who doesn't believe in fairy tales agrees it was a natural phenomenon. But it's still unclear what exactly happened.

Only if you're right....

on to today's news though...apparently this guy decided he would one up Larry Craig....

http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsme...caught_with_gay_prostitute_pleads.php?ref=fpa

When George Alan Rekers, a cofounder along with James Dobson of the Family Research Council and a leader in the ex-gay movement, was caught walking off a plane from Europe with a young male prostitute, he first insisted that he didn't know the young man was an escort until halfway through their 10-day vacation.

"I had surgery," Rekers told the Miami New Times, which broke the story yesterday, "and I can't lift luggage. That's why I hired him."

Rekers had hired the escort, dubbed "Lucien" by the New Times, through the website RentBoy.com (NSFW), a popular site that hosts ads for gay male escorts. There's little mistaking what the site is for.

The site's users first encounter a disclaimer that the may encounter "content and materials that are of a graphic and/or sexual nature," and must agree to terms and conditions before entering. The homepage is predominantly photos of naked men. To search for an escort, or "find boys," one can even select a specialty: "rentboy," "sugardaddy" or "masseur."

****ing classic.

What do you guys think is the funnier excuse? "Wide Stance" or "I can't lift luggage"?

Re: OT - The News Thread

Just classic.... if these people just lived their lives by letting others live theirs, then none of this matters. Instead they make a career of preaching how they are holier than though. It makes it so that anyone who strongly opposes something must be doing it secretly no matter what it is.

Re: OT - The News Thread

rentboy.com

we should sign them up to sponsor this site, habsy!
Nahh, that's not necessary KB. Just go up to "bookmarks" at the top of your browser, right-click, pick "new bookmark" and then type in that address. That'll give you just as quick and convenient access to that site as a banner up at the top of the page would!

You're welcome.

Re: OT - The News Thread

i was thinking more for you guys. zekie-boy is probably getting pretty tired of all of you guys sucking his d!ck every day, and that site would give you more options and give zeke a break.

they have a pic from the airport:

and here's the full quote from Rekers' website:

"A recent article in an alternative newspaper cleverly gave false impressions of inappropriate behavior because of its misleading innuendo, incorrectly implying that Professor George Rekers used the Rentboy website to hire a prostitute to accompany him on a recent trip. Contrary to Internet stories based on this slanderous article, following medical advice Professor George Rekers requires an assistant to lift his luggage in his travels because of an ongoing condition following surgery. His family, local friends, and even another university professor colleague have offered to accompany him on trips to lift luggage. Professor Rekers was not involved in any illegal or sexual behavior with his travel assistant."

- Dr. George Rekers in third-person statement he posted on his personal site.
