OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

And always be in fear that those stars we draft or trade don’t get lured away.

Meh. We shouldn't be concerned. Let them be lured away, there's so much turnover in the NBA. The seems to be building one of their homo superfriends arrangements to keep them. You can't just get one of these guys and sit back expecting to keep them anymore.

Lebron ruined that.

I'm glad he didn't go to the Lakers. but that had nothing to do with gay superteams as we'd like to imagine. it's because the Clippers did the trade he wanted

**** LeBron anyway though. and their arrogant ****ing fans.

Shit, I knew this was a possibility so not shocked but it hurts a bit. Got the title tho. Let’s see what Masai can do. Are there any potential stars we could acquire?

Right now? No.

This year, yeah. KAT. He's going to be wanting out of Minnesota shortly. Them losing out on his buddy D'Lo is damn close to the last straw. There's been some speculation that the Warriors just took D'Lo to make sure they got something for KD and that they'll trade him as soon as they're able (S&T means you can't trade them for 6 months), so I think the Wolves will take a legit run at adding him this season. If he meshes as well in that Warriors offence as I think he will though, GS isn't moving him soon. KAT will ask for a trade if they can't land D'Lo, Wiggins continues to disappoint, and the Wolves suck again.

KATscal as our 1-2, with big cap space to add around them would be a legit core going forward.

so the whole time we were talking about ****ing Home Depot boxes and Uncle Dennis holding up 5 fingers at the parade, and how awesome the Raps org is and how hard it would be for Leonard to leave....behind the scenes Kawhi was working hard recruiting Paul George and giving the Clippers enough time to get the deal done, which is why it took all week.

fantastic.

I don't think free agency is far fetched, but yeah. Something I argued years ago on here about not wanting to tank was that every year, the crop of kids the Toronto area is developing gets better and better. Canada has produced a lottery pick in every draft but one since 2013, most of them top 10. Wiggins and Bennett were disappointments, but what happens when some of these cats start to hit free agency, or get unhappy with where they are like their US counterparts have the tendency of?

The pipeline is stupid deep right now too at the prep and high school level. We're looking at having to build 1 more generation of Raptors basketball before that ****ing tsunami really starts hitting the league.

That would be wonderful but we can’t assume the emotional pull Canadian stars will feel towards playing here will match how American ballers feel about their home. There’s already tons of examples of elite Canadian talent working in the US in non basketball fields. They tend not to come back, even when money is not an issue (they are retired, they get a comparable Canadian offer, etc). Canadians are more open minded about living elsewhere. Half of America doesn’t have a passport.

Most of the 1% will opt to live in California over Toronto. And yes, weather is part of the equation.

The best we can do is make a case for being in the 2nd tier of destinations. That’s within our grasp.

I honestly don’t see Giannis coming here. I think he is the rarest of stars and will stay with the bucks for his career. Which I will totally respect.

But I can see a gathering of Canadian born talent coming here in the next 4-5 years. They’ve grown up in the era of raptors don’t get anyone. So let’s hope they want to show up and say f you to the league.

Let's face it, we are lucky we won. We caught lightning in a bottle. How often does the non favourite win the NBA chamionship? It isn't like NHl at all . It's amazing we are the ones who did it.
At least him not going to Lakers keeps the NBA a little less predictable.

Kawhi was the rarest of stars until San Antonio's medical staff broke him.

What's Giannis' breaking point? A chance to team up with Masia and plant Jurassic Parks all over Africa?

Yeah, that's going to be what Masai offers him. You can stay in Milwaukee and be a local star your entire career, or you can come to Toronto and we'll work together to build African basketball for generations.

Probably not but I feel like Giannis might view Toronto better than the average American super-player. Plus he's tight with Masai, right?

yeah I feel like Mindz is right on that one. One day maybe there will be a Wiggins type that totally wants to be here. There's certainly a lot more star power from here now.

What are the chances Giannis stays? I really don't see it.

In Milwaukee? Yeah, I don't see him as a US style superstar who wants to just gravitate to the biggest US market and maximize his shoe deal. But a proper international city with the biggest name in African basketball running it...same guy who intervened and got his parents papers to get them into Greece when he was a teenager? There's some pull there. Not saying it will happen, but if there is an elite talent around the league that we're in the driver seat to snag, it's him.

If I had to lay odds though, he doesn't sign his next contract with the Bucks unless it's a S&T

I think we have no issue drafting and retaining our own picks through their second contract .

Years ago Masai tried like heck to get Murray in the draft , we would have no issue keeping him on a max second deal

Right now Siakam is the closest we have to a star and he isnt going anywhere . OKC tried to peddle Westbrook to us for him

This is going to be a 2-3 year systemic retool done in stages , I dont see us landing a star anytime soon .

There are only a handful of franchise changers , thank god we had one win us a title .

Stanley Johnson to the Raps. 2 years.

Former 8th overall pick, legit plus defender. Very similar player to OG, but without OG's jumper at this point. If we can clean up the jumper (career 29% 3pt shooter, so lots of room for improvement. I don't hate his form either.) he can become a very good 3&D wing player.
