OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

even with grady in the lineup now this team struggles to create its own shots. can't take him out unless his start turns out to be a complete mirage.

Grady doesn't really create his own shots though. Everything is based on off ball movement. His drives aren't off of his own dribble, they're on curls and shit.

Here's his highlights from his 30 point game against Charlotte:

They're using him how they used RJ in the 2nd half last year, Gradey is just more versatile offensively when he catches the ball in motion on that curl because he can pull up for 3 or in the mid range as necessary so the shot selection within that set makes it look a bit different. Aside from that reckless close out off of the inbounds at the very end of the pack not a single bucket came from Gradey being the initiator with the ball in his hands, it's always working in motion off the ball. I agree that the Raptors need someone who can create their own shots, but Gradey isn't that guy either yet. IQ is sometimes when his floater is working, Scottie is sometimes when his jumper is dropping enough that defenders can't sag off of him.

Season from hell.

Race for Ace?

Or Poop for Coop? Or Capture the Flagg?

Anyone else there that is a franchise level talent?

Dylan Harper probably the best bet outside of those two. Edgecombe gives off some DWade vibes. Super early though. Don't know the Euro kids very well yet.

If we miss out on the top 2-3 prospects I might start pulling for Tre Johnson as our guy. Pure scorer, exact type of quick trigger shooting guard we're missing, just broke KD's record for points in a freshman debut at Texas. Pure, pure scorer and shot creator.

Things get super interesting if we land a top three pick. That would totally reinvigorate my interest.

We're in the era of lottery luck though, even finishing bottom of the league is no guarantee anymore. Remember, we were 6th worst last season and ended up picking 8th. Atlanta was 10th worst and won the lottery.

- Detroit dropped from 1st to 5th
- Houston went from 12th to 3rd
- Portland went from 4th to 7th

So being bad isn't enough. We could easily finish bottom 3 and draft 5th-6th

I was against tanking before the new lottery, now I think it's beyond fucking pointless. Finish bottom 2 for a 14% chance at picking 1st? Fuck that.

Race for Ace.

Would be like dropping a 19-20 yr old Kevin Durant into this lineup. I don't know if he ends up having a better career than Flagg but there's a real chance that he becomes a #1 scorer you can build a contender around. Flagg looks a lot to me like the best version we've seen of Scottie so far. He scores with open 3's, the odd blow by to the rim and being a bully in the mid to low post. More or less exactly how Scottie gets his points at this point in his career. I mean, I'll happily take another (maybe better) version of Peak Scottie but we need a guy who squares up on his defender and just scores the ball in late clock without needing to come off of two screens, a P/R, etc. We need someone with a bag who can just pull buckets out of the bottom of it when we need them.
