OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

the only point was that his clutch performances have changed over time, which runs counter to the narrative that the Leafs stars are inherently irredeemable chokers

I can see Giannis as our top choice, Masai has wanted him for years. Like I’ve mentioned before, I just wish we kept Siakam and Anunoby if we’re able to land Giannis. I didn’t mind moving them if we were actually rebuilding.

Zion would have been a guy i would have figured them in on prior to the recent allegations about him.

I can see Ball if Charlotte is moving him for some reason, ditto Sabonis and Sacto and squint and maybe see Booker or Trae

re Zion....I don't know if the allegations are going to matter, apparently Zion's lawyers had filed a criminal complaint against her quite a while ago about extortion attempts and she had two sets of attourney's take her case and then drop her before filing. On the court I still struggle to see a fit with Scottie long term, neither of them can shoot. On the other side of it, the acquisition price is going to be waaay cheaper than any other similar impact player for obvious reasons.

Ball apparently quietly wants out of Charlotte, though he might be trying to force his way to a big American market, dunno there. The cost of Sabonis in conjunction with his defensive issues at centre (he's a good "team" defender, but is a guy that other teams can get buckets against 1v1...kind of Jokic-ish but smaller) makes me concerned there, especially again with his potential fit with Scottie. Though Sabonis can hit spot up 3's at a pretty good rate, so is a legit stretch 5 now I think. Trae I just don't see, Booker I do if I squint a bit....but I don't know if I'd want to give up RJ+IQ for him....I'm not convinced that RJ can't be pretty close to the overall offensive performer Booker is and I'd rather save IQ for a swing at a legit superstar.

As for Giannis....I don't see anyway he's traded where the rape isn't straight up obscene. Scottie + IQ + all of the picks forever + Anything else decent and young in our rotation for Giannis + their bad salary type shit. Anything short of that can be beat by Houston or OKC while keeping a good and deep core around him.

Ya. We don’t have the right assets currently. It would have to be a 3 way longshot

I think there's a few key things at work here that really doesn't work well for us in the Giannis sweeps

- Giannis isn't the type of dude to force his way to any specific team if he feels like it's fucking the Bucks over. He's been a loyal guy to the organization. Don't see why that would change now. They haven't done him wrong, and took a big swing on Dame that he asked them to that didn't work in the end.

- If he leaves the Bucks it's about winning. It's about seeing a path to rings that just aren't available to him in Milwaukee. If we have to give up multiple good players (say Scottie + IQ) and 4 1sts to get him....does he see a contender here with him, poeltl, Ingram, RJ and bench full of maybe okay one day kids? Is that actually better than what has failed the last few years in Milwaukee?

The only, only way this works is if Giannis (who doesn't have a no trade) tried to force his way to Toronto, and refused to extend anywhere else....but even then, I could see OKC and Houston both still be willing to go deep to get him for a guaranteed 2 years and hope that they can convince him to extend after he's done some winning there.

It's a nice dream and all, but just a dream.

Masai trying to rehab Zion feels way, way more likely. Waaay cheaper to acquire and Zion's nerdies were pretty outrageous this year. 7.0 BPM (Giannis is generally around 9.0). If Zion had done that over an entire season, his BPM would have been 4th in the NBA. His contract has a bunch of weight management clauses in it that would provide the ability to waive him if he falls off the wagon, but given how historically shit the Pelicans have been at keeping players healthy and engaged, rehabbing a 24 yr old who was considered a generational prospect not long ago is pretty fucking intriguing and the cost would be minimal. Like RJ + Dick minimal.
