OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

News

- Wiggins is signing a 3/64 extension with Miami. This is actually good news for anyone who wants to keep RJ. Another very comparable player to RJ signing in the low 20's.
- Malik Beasley has been indicted on gambling charges related to a point shaving scheme. Fucking seriously, the NBA needs to address this shit. Being this exposed to gambling is fucking with the integrity of the sport. Former Raptor Ed Davis also involved.
- To no one's surprise, Zach Lavine has opted in to his 49 million dollar player option. Interesting deadline option for someone.
- Marcus Smart is opting out of his option and hitting free agency, but we have Marcus Smart at home.
- Fred is opting in to his 25 million dollar deal because yeah. His knee literally fucking exploded last year.
- Lebron to GSW is sounding more and more likely

This makes sense, the Raps almost assuredly want to use salary ( Ingram, TJD, Dick) and picks/swaps ( however many required) in the deal and keep their good young players to put around Kawhi/Scottie/Quickly/RJ.

One thing that would seperate us from alot of teams if we make this deal in the East would be depth

PG-Quickly/Shead/Bradley
SG-RJ/JaKobe/Martin
SF-Kawhi/Batle
PF-Barnes/Graves
C-Puddle/CMB

Im not a big basketball guy... isn't kawhi old as fuck? Why trade for him

Just turned 35, but was 2nd team all NBA last year, so still fringe elite. Keep him healthy and he's the 3rd best player we've ever had, with the 27 yr old version of Kawhi being the best, and peak Vince being the 2nd best.

The reason to trade for him is that he's largely falling into our lap, like the first time, with the acquisition cost set to be minimal considering the level of player he is. Ingram + Dick + 1st (maybe 2 1sts at most) isn't a big package at all. Both players were bodies I wanted us to move off of this summer anyway. The 1sts have some value, with slim lottery odds in the new system, but even then it's pretty limited value.

Tough to not see us as a flawed, but super dangerous dark horse contender in the east if this goes down.

Also, I don't think it should be overlooked how important it would be for Scottie's growth to put the ultimate version of Scottie next to him every day for the next few years.

Kawhi was near peak Kawhi last year. And we could give him his easiest defensive load ever with scottie-cmb beside him doing what he usually had to do.

We would also be keeping our 3 best offensive starters according to various models as well. There's more insulation for Kawhi here than most people would assume, at both ends of the court.

And if jakobe can keep sinking 3s then suddenly he makes a lot of sense ahead of RJ.

If we get this done, I'd be surprised if RJ is with us in training camp. With Kawhi-Scottie as the starting 3-4, we need better floor spacing. Quick can definitely help provide some of that, but it would be really nice if RJ could be turned into 1-2 floor spacers. I'm not even so precious about them being "starter" quality. Just a couple of 40% shooters with average D.
