When the old Athletics played there they were essentially the Yankees farm team (Roger Maris played there before the Bronx).
 
As for the justin upton talk... Should we upgrade on.....

Bautista, Rasmus, davis, snider, gose, marisnick

Or

Laffey, cecil, villanueva, romero, alvarez, chavez

Great deal for EE. He's a great DH.

Definitely should go for Upton though. I'd rather have him and Bautista and Rasmus in the outfield than to pin hopes on Snider, Gose and the rest making it for that last spot.

That outfield could be better than the Barfield, Bell, Moseby days for us. Best ever, in other words.
 
Zeke said it well, in that when AA acquired other high ceiling players, it was for guys like alex gonzalez, dotel, frasor, rzep or lower ceiling prospects like pastornicky, collins, stewart, etc.

I wouldn't waste your time thinking Alex is going to package a combo that includes one of our vegas prospects, lansing starters, and more.

It is not going to happen.

I will drive to your house and you can kick me in the balls if it does, but it won't.

Ah okay, I'd heard that wrong then.

Still, as much as bautista, fielder and trumbo are freaks of power... You can't not have a hometown guy in a skills competition.
 
If there was a Felix Hernandez type ( controlled young stud) available as a SP then i would be all over getting him over Justin Upton, however there isn't and the controlled arms that are out there ( Garza) don't thrill me enough to give up what i perceive will be necessary to get them.

Upton on the other hand i would, his age, talent, contract status and situation are all plusses in my book, and the fact that we have 2 All Star quality OF wouldn't deter me in the slightest. Lest we forget that AA had been willing to give a 3 year deal to Carlos Beltran in the winter. I'd like to know whats changed since then.

We aren't 1 piece away from being a champion, if we were then i would be gung ho for Grienke, but IMO we have too many holes to fill right now and the mantra should be to add flat out the best talent available. This is Upton
